So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

Yea got the yellow gt back in April...
Well funny story you actually bought my back up plan. Luther did not win the sales contest and they were trying to get me the yellow from Rochester or Duluth Kia. They actually made a deal for that stinger within minutes of me finalizing my deal with belzers. Belzers made me put down 5k about 90 days before they got the yellow and wanted me to pay 5k over sticker until I showed them Luther was going to sell me at $500 under sticker and they changed their mind in the spot and sold me mine for sticker. I got the impression Luther already pulled the trigger and had a yellow one coming. I believe only 3 of them made it to mn and I was curious if they were purchased and remained in mn. So now 2 are accounted for in mn. We will have to hook up some time. I’m in prior lake. Anyway sorry everyone to get off topic. Feel free to pm me

With the dec 1 deadline I think it is smart to wait until closer to the deadline as it will most likely allow us get a 2019 instead of a 2018 model as replacement if you choose that option. I will be scheduling my appt for the middle of oct to be finished by nov 1st allowing my full 30 days to make a decision before the dec 1st deadline.
Agreed, id like to have more time to have paint fail on other areas just in case to strengthen my request for complete re-spray

I just got off phone with lind and told her to contact dealer to schedule ... I would like to keep my yellow and she even said they are suppose to go down to bare metal and start fresh
Not per the SB they arent. The SB very clearly states how this will be accomplished. IF you can get a shop to do different for the same work, kudos to you.

Update with lots of pictures. I took today off, and decided to wash and polish up My Babe this morning while it was still cool outside. Wash complete, waxed and then took a good long look at the paint. I am really shocked at some of the areas I found. Some blantant paint runs, more and more "chips", and the headlight rub on the drivers side has gotten larger.

Pics (not the best, my crappy cell phone camara):

This is paint run #1, near the rear by the hatch. The streaking you are seeing is because it was still a bit wet from where I opened the hatch and water dripped down, then wipped it off with my shammy.

This is paint run #2. Inside the rear passenger door jam. Because it is a raised area of paint, the door is rubbing (I am guessing here) it everytime the it is opened/closed.

The headlight rub.

These two spots are on the quarter panels on both side. This feels when touched like issues with the metal more than paint. Not sure what is going on in the second pic.

And just cause I posted about this earlier in this thread... The "painters tape" that was left between the panels and around the side reflector. Great work there. Yes, I left it there (not that I can get it out without doing damage) to show when/as/if needed.

These final pics are of chips throughout the car body and the hood. These two specific pics are on the hood. Rock chips? I do not think so. With over 14K miles now on her, I have plenty of those on the front and they do not look anything like these.

I am still waiting to hear back from KMA. Colby has been great and has been keeping me in the loop.

Sorry I havent been following your case. Has your car been repainted already?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Haha yes, I catch that now. :)

Luminary, that was crazy.

That is flat out horrible!

Earl Scheib could do better and for only $99, no ups no extras. What a crappy job. I’m so sorry for you.
Did you get buyout options? You may need a lawyer.

The options I've seen seem to indicated you could swap out for a *different* color, but not the same?

You know new vehicles coming soon are going to be OK. If possible, I'd be leaning towards a swap out for the *same* color...

Swapping for a different color only applies to the Sunset Yellow owners because they only made 400 for sale in the US. In theory, there aren’t any to swap with. I haven’t heard that anyone with a color other than yellow get any other options other than repaint. Definitely Luminary deserves a replacement vehicle at this point.

Will Kia accept a rejection of a repaint? If it looks like @Luminary's, within a few days of directly out of the shop, I don't see how Kia can do less than allow the car to be repainted until it satisfies: no runs, no painting tape trapped between the panels, no chips or flakes. Just a pristine paint job; which Kia said already that they will warranty for the same time as a factory paint job, 36 months or 36K miles.

This can get ugly for Kia, since there is great variation in the quality of body and paint shops.

Yes, you can read about it in this thread. :)
I might have missed it, but do you know if the repaint of your car was the same “quality” or process as the one outlined by Kia for the Sunset Yellows?

Non Yellow is piece meal fix if you can get KIA to cover. They only paint damaged pieces not the pieces that will flake off tomorrow or at 3 years and a day when the warranty is over.

I am still waiting to hear back from KMA (Kia Motors America). Colby has been great and has been keeping me in the loop.
On the hood it looks like the original paint flaked taking out the OEM and respray layers? Seems you can see both layers of blue. Accurate?
If so these impacted 2017 cars need full resprays and sanded to bare metal.

Which is why affected customers should be pushing for buybacks at full price as I have said all along. Walk away. Buy another brand or buy another Stinger when you know KIA has figured out how to paint the car. This kind of repaint story was predictable and will be commonplace with others. People need to stop screwing around here, stop praising KIA for their awful handling of this situation and start sending demand letters. Its not funny anymore, people paid big bucks for this car.

If you're "emotionally attached" to a car you're more likely to at least give them a shot at it, as that doesn't negate the option to hand it back to them if you're not happy.

Unfortunately, we're seeing evidence that many owners are not going to be happy, and I'd expect more won't even bother giving them that chance and just walk away, as you stated.
