I have been driving the car for a couple of days and I can sense a burning smell coming out of the engine. Is that normal?

Thanks

No, typically not! What does it smell like? How are you driving when it does it? How many miles on the car?

It smells like somewhat electrical, but not really bad. I dont smell it inside of the car. When I am in the garage it does smell although not too bad. It has may 70-80 miles.

Weird. I never detected any unusual smells coming from the car and I bought it with about 25 miles on the odometer. The only exception was the very first time I used the washer fluid the smell entered the cabin, hasn't done that again. Try visually inspecting the engine bay for any plastic or wiring that may be coming in contact with things that could melt them. Also consider taking it to the dealer to see what they think.

How hard are you driving?

Here are some pictures. There is a cable that has been taped with electrical tape. A__47F8.webp A__69C3.webp A__D85E.webp
Can someone take a similar picture?

Perfectly normal, to smell a brand new engine, for several hundred miles. All kinds of sprays and coatings "cook off".

Your "electrical tape" is newer than mine (which is starting to come loose at one end):

Manually applied tape is fine... I used to fix electronics so if someone says "electrical smell" my mind goes someplace different than the usual solvents and whatnot burning off from a new engine. But I could certainly be wrong.

Hi Mark, is your Stinger brand-new? If so, a burning smell is normal for maybe the first 1,000 miles, because at the factory, they spray the insides of the exhaust system with a metal protectant to displace moisture, and the protectant is just burning off with regular driving. I had a burning smell from two Stingers I've had so far. I think you're ok, and also, electrical tape is normal.

Yeah, I agree. The car will have that electrical smell for a short while. Especially if you got it with low miles

Yes, the car is brand new.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Kia Stinger Recall on US Stingers, regarding an electrical wire loom , that may not only wear but heat up and cause fire, if I remember correctly, Aussie Stingers not affected.
Even if that recall doesn't effect your Stinger, might be wise to ask your Kia service department for confirmation.

My Stinger had 29 miles when I drove it off the lot. I don't recall any smell as I broke it in (a la the manual's recommended 600 miles). But that is probably because the car "wondered" if I was going to start actually driving it like a sporty GT instead of a grandpa. :p The instant I saw the odometer click "600" I downshifted and did a fast pass over 100 MPH. I tend to take written instructions literally.

That was the harness recall, and only involved Stingers produced in a limited time span: which, iirc, were build dates between August 2017 and April 2018.

I thought so, it was quite a while ago, amazing how time has gone by.

Also your message seems to be posted in a very dark blue, almost impossible for me to read it , since I have the Deep Chroma Blue theme going.:rofl::laugh::rofl:

You'll have to explain that one to me. :P

Don't know what happened, but the message you sent me , where you mentioned the harness recall, on my screen the words in that message are dark blue, but this last message you just sent me is in white letters again, if you scroll down to almost the bottom of the webpage, and just above " About us " on the left side, you can change the colour theme of the forum, either Snow White Pearl or Deep Chroma Blue, mine is set on DCB,:), that's all , personal preference.
