Slim Subwoofer

I should clarify I have the HK system, not base.

Those graphs are from uncorrelated pink noise without any input EQ by me. My Helix V12 has 12 separate high level inputs, so every channel from the factory amp has its own input channel. What you're seeing is the signal after whatever filters and EQ are applied by the HK amp, but BEFORE any processing by the Helix.

(and yes, FLL = front lower left)

in the KH system, there are three drivers in each door. The 6.5" woofer has its own channel and is bandpassed as you see in the pic. The midrange and tweeter are high-passed and run off the same channel. There's a simple capacitor on the tweeter as a bass blocker.

here's the signal going to those:

And lastly, the center channel:

@BIGBREW sorry to hijack your thread.

I'll second what @byebyeSTI said regarding adding an amp to the factory subs. I ran this for a while and it was a worthy upgrade.
I followed this video and even bought the same amp, but used a Wavtech Link4 to sum in some higher frequencies from the doors.

Here's a couple pics of how I installed the amp and LOC:

I don't think I have the HK. I think I have just the base radio. Where am I grabbing signal? At the door or in the trunk. Trunk makes it even easier.

Trunk, the amp is in the same spot regardless of which system you have.

In the last pic I posted it's the silver box above the fuse block (behind the Wavtech).

Alright. I'll just grab the signal in the trunk. Thank you.

This little box has done wonders for my bass. It pounds super hard for its size. 0 square footage of trunk space lost. Just 6" tall.

looks good, would be my choice if i bought one now.

i put a 10" powered Kicker (truck-style box that i've had in my last 2 cars) in the Stinger, and its great - easy install (no LOC or remote wire needed), and the sealed enclosure is what i prefer (crisp and tight, not boomy and loose like a ported enclosure).

i plan on attaching it to the back of the rear seat in the next couple days, because i'm not happy with how it sits now, and should give me a lot more trunk space that way...

@Scorpion24 that is my ideal install. Did you manage to buy the fabled JL stealthbox somewhere, or did you get it custom fabricated?

@Snowwhite did you mount the JL sub the same way as in that post? I don't think I want to send screws through my backseat...

I would love to hear that compared to what I have.

You have me thinking.

Wonder if I can Amazon Prime one and return it if it's not a big difference

I got it custom fabricated. It’s bolted down from inside the box. I think the only negative is for the 2022 there’s a taillight light bulb that if if ever need to replace I’ll have to take out the sub to get to it.

I built a box similar to @Scorpion24 except I don't have a slim sub, so it protrudes a bit more. Still have plenty of cargo space and the box has the .6 cubic feet the speaker wants.

I just use velcro to keep it in place.

The stealthbox is slick, but too spendy for me.

@Scorpion24 @Aarvix both awesome installs! I had a "big" 12" sub in my last hatchback, and I got tired of it taking up so much room. Definitely looking for a slick install like these. I just need a reputable shop in Houston.

Same. The extra money for the slick install is worth it. I had a huge box with two 10s in my previous car and it takes up way too much space.

Even with it to the side like this the sound travels well I feel, since we have a hatch.

Bass radiates and is less sensitive to direction (line of sight to the listener's ear), but is more sensitive to materials and distance from the speaker. That's why subs in home theaters are often placed in seemingly weird places in a room, it's about maximizing the strength of the bass response at the listener's seating position. I suspect this works in the Stinger for similar reason -- the driver's seat might be within that sweet spot where the bass radiates loudly but not boomy. I bet sitting in the back seat it's either not enough or too much bass, certainly there would be someplace in the car where it doesn't work just because maths. The nice thing with sub boxes is you can reposition them in the trunk if needed to account for what I describe above. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable car audio installers can explain best strategy for sub placement.

I love the factory HK system but was considering an under seat sub (but didn't want to be the guinea pig on this) I wanted to see if the OVAL driver w/ aluminum enclosure'd units would work well for just a little more bump without much effort?!:

the subs under the front seats are already impressive stock equipment. there isn't a lot of depth available under there. that makes me wonder what you could replace them with that would be noticeably better.
