Should I Tune?

I partially agree.....that act is BS you dont have more money that KIA for one to fight at the end of the day if they decide to void your warranty....if you go for blown speakers and they see a JB4 an other mods they will notate that in their system and guess what happens next time go in for warranty work and something is wrong with the engine or trans? Like I said i have experienced this first hand with a mustang .....took it in for some recall to change the trunk hatch and guess what they seen the the mods to it and then put it on their system....About a month or so after I was leaking oil from the timing belt which was a common issue on it based on other people experiences on the forum and guess what they didnt warranty they blamed the mods....and no i was not going to spend a shit ton of money to take them to court lol ...so guess what i paid 1200 to get it done from a private shop....so i would not recommend or encourage anyone to take the risk....

...Did I not say that? If KIA thinks they can reasonably connect an aftermarket mod to a failed stock part, they can and sometimes will use that to try to deny a claim. That's why you talk to the dealer and see what they're fine with. And no, I wouldn't bother going to court over a timing belt but I've seen a couple of Gen Coupe owners drag Hyundai through the mud when it came to entire engines being blown that Hyundai tried to say an intake or something else caused when 3.8s have known oil starvation issues. There comes a point where a company realizes it's cheaper to just fix the damn car than try to keep appealing court cases. At any rate, I thought I didn't need to mention that if you're going to tune a car...you should have the means to fix it if it goes south. Kinda comes with the territory.

Get some regapped plugs in...then a JB4....that's all ya need....go take a look at what boostane does to your plugs...plenty of you tube vids....you screw your motor up and they pull a plug and see the orange on the plugs what then? Most all the catback installs is just noise in my opinion....and be careful of the dreaded drone when dealing with exhaust mods....:) Wash

Do you like the pro tuner? whats you opinion on it?
I know this doesn't really account for much, but I still wanted to say this, I have the Pro Tuner set on Mode-2 of the new app which is the 93 octane map. On my way to work this am, I was getting onto the merge lane going straight and I pushed the accelerator moderately. The conditions were light rain,( been raining for hours prior ), and temp was 40' f outside. I have 7000 miles on the car and tires look mint... well, at 55-60 the car was starting to fishtail and I had to back off. Just some food for thought, and wanted to share this. Take it as words of caution when driving in the rain with any tune device! I would attribute the wheel spin to Lap3usa adjusting the stock tq. parameters in the stock ecu. This unleashes power that is already there on the table. Car was in sport mode also..

Kevin does pro tuner allow you to adjust your tune back to stock via your smart phone like the JB4 does?....Wash

Yes. Mode -0 is stock. Android app only at this time. iOS app is in the works

I don’t have those issues lol AWD

Back on topic...

My approach is to run without a tune first and stick to bolt ons like intake, mid-pipes, etc. and gauge how the car performs. Then after a year of ownership if I feel I need more, a tune.

Mid pipe isn’t gonna do much. The intakes and primary cat pipe will do more. Do your research. Would not like to see you get disappointed. And for the price of intakes and exhaust, you could have a Tune device that yields far more results. Just saying

30 hp/26 tq for midpipes is a solid gain
My intake cost me $150
No plan to change the exhaust because of the cost, drone and limited gains

I’ve done my research. I’m providing the OP with an alternative to tuning. Answering the question he asked. I don’t disagree with the yield a tune provides, It’s definitely solid bang for the buck and something I will consider down the road.

I like the midpipes suggestion. Is this something the Kia dealer will consider a no no? I’m a newbie.

Any modification comes with some degree of risk but Kia would need to prove the midpipes caused something to fail in order to deny a warranty claim. That would be hard to do with midpipes.

There is an emissions impact as they delete the secondary cats. I’m not sure what implication this has for you in the US so perhaps other American owners who have them can comment on that.

I have the SSR Performance midpipes and there are other options like Jun BL but I’m very happy with them.

It's technically a violation of federal law in the US to touch the cats at all but states never enforce it and go by their own standards. So in reality it varies here from state to state, ranging from California literally crushing cars to states that don't even look.

I think someone said it best, if you just want some extra kick go with a simple piggyback, but know they can void your warranty. IF you want something that wont void any powertrain then avoid messing with any ecu mods or piggybacks. Just get some intakes and exhaust talk to your dealer if you are concerned considering some sell GT2s with Borlas and K&N intakes you should be ok.

I thought that a true CAI (with big mouth filters) was a no-no for dealerships? I know that most of them won't say a word about a catback (I mean, a Stinger catback where the primary cat is still attach to the turbo and the downpipe's untouched...should we start saying axle back, then??), a KIA service manager told me so 3 weeks ago. Is there any big differences (whp/wtq) between K&N drop-in filters and a custom CAI on the Stinger? You guys sure the dealer won't care about a custom CAI?

I'm considering a JB4 (w/fuelwires) & a muffler delete, come spring time. Should I go for K&N drop-ins or custom intake?

Like other said some dealers are different. Mine had no issues with Dump Valves after the primaries to bypass the secondaries and my injen intakes. They obviously told me if I had an exhaust leak or something like that it would be on me.

If that dealer tells you no to the K&N intakes call another dealer and see what they say. Or call the VIP line and ask them. They will likely explain the law that any aftermarket part will not void your warranty unless it is the root cause of a failure.

get the Lap3USA.COM PRO TUNER....You will be blown away by the results!!! And as always, I would like to reiterate on ,making sure whatever tune device you purchase... make sure your listening closely to make sure you don't have spark ping! There are many fuel source upgrades that can assist you in getting your octane level up to par..I speak from personal experience when I say this, I am in Va.. we have poor fuel quality and its currently on the winter blend formulas. You can upgrade any fuel with seeking the advice of a tech at Boostane.com.
You can always pm me and I can share my experiences with what I have done to my car...
My wife has a 2018 stinger gt awd and wants a tuner without having to change plugs and intake I put a k&n cai on it that's all what would you suggest

Think plugs are for a higher map setting.

Even so if your gonna tune it don't skimp. Your putting the motor under more load so you want the extra cai n plugs.

Otherwise I will recommend a simple pedal tuner. You don't gain anything hp, but you remove the pedal lag, n can set the sensitivity higher so let's say

1 minimal
2 half
3 full

You can set it so in the minimal position you get half throttle. But the pedal isn't pressed in half way. There's plenty of combinations n fine tweakings. I personally have the bms pedal tuner
