Shifting at comfort mode

Ah shit, really? That sucks. Did the dealership charge you anything for it?
No it was free under warranty, give it a shot maybe youll have better luck. Mine goes in again on the 13th and if there is no fix i will probably sell it honestly. It makes the car unbearable to drive.

I will definitely try it next time I go in. Sucks to hear about your situation, though. I like the car too much to get rid of it.

I love everything else about the car too, but thats something i could never get over coming from an almost 50k car. I hope you have better luck than me.

It never did that from when I got it to about 25k miles in eco mode. I've read around here that they can reset the transmission computer and it will fix it then. I will ask the dealership next time I'm in for an oil change.
There is a transmission logic TSB out; but it was only for early Stingers: I've always refused it, because "if it ain't broke don't mess with it". I wonder if later Stingers exhibit this rough shifting for the same reasons (whatever those might be) as the earlier trans logic TSB.

Huh, didn't know there was a TSB out for it. I'll take it to the dealership and see what they say. I just don't want to waste too much time there because I already know what they will say.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Get a TCU tune.

Two things you can do while staying in comfort mode: pull that left paddle shifter at least a couple of times to raise RPM, or push the go pedal down far enough to tell the trans that you want power now; in a straight line you can even engage the kickdown switch (I say "straight line" because I do not recommend giving that much gas while maneuvering): that is the real message sender. For example, on my last road trip, I was cruising at 89 MPH, pulled out to pass and pushed the gas all the way: instantly the trans downshifted from 8th gear to 4th gear: and this was with engine set to Eco (in Custom mode): before I could collect myself, I was doing 130 MPH.
Im not seeing a problem here

Comfort is a bit too docile whereas sport is way too agressive for daily driving.
There really should have been a mode in between.

^^This car would be wonderful with a 6spd and 3 pedals... Even the 4 cyl.

I don't understand why Kia tuned this transmission so badly.
I noticed my transmission was shifting so smooth after my battery was dead and jump started.
do you guys know if unplugging TCU does same thing as resetting adaptive learning values?
I tried this several times and I noticed that it's smooth for a week and then goes jerky again, like one of you mentioned this happened after resetting adaptive learning values.
I really wish Kia comes with better tunes...

It's generally a smooth and fast shifting transmission. Although at times it seems too eager to down shift even on slightly uphill incline.

At first I thought the downshift was pretty harsh as well right after I first started driving the car. I've since adjusted how I slow down and come to a stop and it seems to be a bit less aggressive. It could just be my imagination though. I also went from a manual transmission scion xb and the brakes weren't nearly as grabby. First time I applied the brakes on the stinger in the test drive I thought I was going to give myself whiplash. Now I have a tendency to brake a little sooner and lighter and anticipate the downshift and it's not nearly as bad...at least for me.

Hah, I know the feeling. After I tested my braking, I had to push back the intense feeling of nausea (I get motion sickness).

with the current gas price... I tried eco mode for the first time and it seems to get to higher rev before it shifts compared to comfort mode.. I like eco mode better than comfort mode

That's counter-intuitive but you have piqued my interest enough that I'm going to try eco mode for the first time. I feel that in comfort mode the gearbox is too reluctant to downshift at low speeds so this interests me.

Let us know.
