Hello everyone.

Yesterday an infinity q50 almost hit me after it skipped the red light (60mph). Now I am a little paranoid. In my country I have never seen anyone with a dashcam (aside police cars) and I
thought it could be a good idea to get one. Could you help me with some inquiries?

  • Does the dashcam also record speed or an extra device is needed?
  • Does it records the driver or only the front of the car?
  • Does the camera record if the vehicle is hit while parked?, If so, is there any problem with the battery dying?
  • Do you recommend any model in particular?

I purchased the Blackvue 750s dual camera (ebay/amazon). It has a front and back camera (no in cabin camera) and has an app that monitors your car and sends an alert if anyone hits it. If you want a front facing camera and a cabin camera (but no rear camera), you may consider the Vantrue dashcam (ebay/amazon). Vantrue does not have an app. Both are on Amazon. Many Youtube videos on both of these dashcams.

Sorry to hear this! Drivers these days are crazy out there thats for sure

The LG dash cam we carry does pretty much all youre looking for but the first option which it doesnt record speed.

It monitors both front and rear of your Stinger and has a motion/impact detection in case someone hits you while its parked! I have my dash cam hard wired in but you can use the car charger option just fine.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out!

I just purchased a Thinkware F800 front and rear system with hardwire kit. I'd planned installing it today but it rained all day so will have to wait a couple days. Anyway, take a look at what's the best available, feature-wise and then scale down to lesser capable and expensive systems to suit your needs. I'd recommend hard wiring into your vehicle if possible but take a look at a few videos to see exactly what you want out of your system.

I'd be extremely weary of local laws regarding filming. While it's perfectly legal at the federal level, some local cops don't know that and you could be hassled under the excuse of "entorpeciendo una investigacion"

If you do get a cam, make sure it looks like a rain sensor or something of that nature to avoid arousing suspicion

Here in the States they wont do anything nor can they for you have a dash cam. If they give you more trouble, well... you've got it on video. lol

I've been using the same garmin one for 3 years. Records amazingly at night. Has longitude and latidute as well as speed. Records sound too. It's like gsrmin dashcam 20 or something. It's been discontinued so you might find one cheap. I've had some cops search my previous car for drugs. Apparently I came off as a drug dealer. And they thought it was a GPS since it has gsrmin on it and talked about me and my cam recordered it all. Apparently they needed to score a big win this month.

Hey Rango, did you hardwire your dashcam? Can you take pictures of where you placed the front and rear cameras? Thx

The dashcam I did not hardwire. Didn't want to cut the cables. I got an extension for the cam and ran it to the back 12v accessory socket (across the top, down the pillar, under the footwell, and under the center console). I never use the back socket for anything. Position the camera so the lense is dead center of the windshield. I did hardwire my Uniden R3 today. The fuse I used is circled. Purchased a micro2 fuse tap off of Amazon for the install. Not sure if this fuse would work for the dashcam though ... didn't reaserch that. The rear camera is temporarily to the right of the rear view mirror. Gonna move it to the back later.20180422_000111.webp 20180422_000021.webp 20180422_000328.webp

I’ve been considering this for a while now too. So many bad drivers and so many liars.

I went cheap with the "HD Dash Cam" for about $50. Have one for each of my cars. I didn't want to hard-wire anything. It's adequate for documenting someone else's fault in case of an accident. Here's a little clip I saved when I once almost took out a vulture that was sitting on the side of the road and then flew up right in front of me.

I bought a VIOFO A119S ... and shortly after another one, cause I like it. Tiny, nicely attachable, GPS in it's foot that gets stuck to the windshield and a display.

Have a look at www.dashcamtalk.com

As for the specific questions:
  • Does the dashcam also record speed or an extra device is needed?
If it has a GPS option, then it can record speed (measured by satellite, not the cars tacho signal). That can be enabled/disabled in the options usually.
  • Does it records the driver or only the front of the car?
Usually only what you see, because it gets attached overhead near the mirror foot, you are not on it. Some cams also have a rear cam or a rear facing camera on the front piece.
  • Does the camera record if the vehicle is hit while parked?, If so, is there any problem with the battery dying?
It has no battery like an Action Cam. Dashcams feed off the cars main battery and do usually not have a battery on their own (with the exception of a tiny one, that is also often replaced by capacitors (better, less cold or heat sensitive), merely used to store the last few seconds before poweroff for crash situations etc). Many do have a simple motion sensor function to watch parking spaces, but then you need to have it on permanent 12V in the car and do a proper installation, as your usual 12V sockets power off on an unpowered car.
  • Do you recommend any model in particular?
For me, the A119S is great. I have a second one, connected on the back window instead of a dual cam.

A dash cam would be handy here in Florida where driving is like something out of a Madmax movie and lots of idiots carrying NO insurance.

Off topic question....
Has anyone hardwired a radar detector in their Stinger?
If so how did you run the power?
(I prefer to mount on passenger visor)

Radar warners confuse me. I can't comprehend why they're not illegal everywhere in the US :) Here they love regulating everything and they're highly illegal, so I don't get how police etc in the US sits there thinking "Ok, we check for speeders, but we're okay with radar warners, making our job useless since years".

You have a valid point, and they are illegal in some states. But as long as it is legal where I live, I will be getting one as an accessory to my GT2. I won’t be spending $50k on a twin turbo sports car to stay below 70mph every time I drive it.
