This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... Hey all,

I live in North Georgia and don’t have to worry much about snow but reading on this forum has made me second guess ordering RWD. A lot of people have said it’s horrible in the rain, etc.

This is going to be my daily driver… so if it’s pouring rain I’ll be out in it. If I keep it out of sport mode and don’t drive it like a maniac will I need to worry?

I’ve never owned a RWD car and the more I read the more nervous I’m getting.

Thanks for the insight.

I live out here in norcal. doesn't rain much out here but when it does I never pass 65 mph lol...

Most of the michelin performance tires are quite decent in the rain. Just drive with common sense and you'll be ok.

This is my first awd car. I would much rather prefer rwd, but in the midwest people are afraid to drive rwd in the elements so all they offer is front or awd for most cars.

I had a set of snow tires for the g37 and camaro (z28) before that. All fine fine. My first car was a mid 80's chevy taxi cab, rwd with an open diff. Wound up getting stuck just once in the 10 years of driving that car. I was in the outside lane of a 2 lane turn. The asshat in the inside lane went wide. It was either have him crash into me or end up in a snow bank.

The G with the michelin pilot super sport handled just fine in the rain.

Good to know, I appreciate it.

My dad had a Z51 C6 that is drive and I never had an issue but I don’t remember driving it much in the rain. I’m definitely a cautious driver but I just don’t want to be an idiot and get something I shouldn’t.

I’m also in GA and still wouldn’t choose RWD but I don’t track. Just a spirited driver…personal preference. If you keep it in eco or comfort mode though no worries in the elements. Definitely recommend upgrading tires to Z rating

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I live in VA, likely get more snow than you and also RWD, I've been running stock tires since new and main thing is stay off sport mode and feather the peddle when making full turns into different streets, too much gas will have you drifting into the nearest car or curb

you'll be totally fine in the rain... yes, you might break traction more easily but with a decent weight distribution i'd not worry about it... i have an awd stinger but both of our old bmws were just rwd and just fine in the rain. Obviously with staggered wider tires in the rear, you do need to worry more about hydroplaning at very high speeds but good tires can make up for that and in those cases awd isn't going to help you anyway. Just drive like a sane person in the rain like one should and you'll be just fin!

That works. As I mentioned, I’ll definitely be cautious when driving in wet conditions. Have you ever felt unsafe in the rain?

No I watch for puddles for the sake of not hydroplaning but that's any car, I would say I don't feel any more or less safe thank did in any other car

^^Isn't that a speed rating? How does that help in the rain?
Are you referring to me mentioning my Dad’s Z51 Corvette? I was purely mentioning that to say I’ve driven a powerful RWD car… just not in the elements.

I drove a RWD Stinger in light/medium snow WHILE wearing Max performance summer tires and nobody died.

Every day of your commute you probably drive by thousands of RWD vehicles that are managing to stay planted to the road. You can drive the car in rain just fine. Just make sure you're driving sensibly--as you would in any other car in the rain.

I like driving it in the rain. It was pouring all day yesterday and I never lost confidence even in sport mode. Of course, I have the 2.0 which might have something to do with that but I used to have a V8 STS and I loved driving that in the rain too. I recognize people think I'm insane but hey, chaos makes me feel comfy.

I have some ling long on my car at the moment so I will definitely not go above 65 at the moment loll.. currently raining here in the bay area.

OP, do you know what tires are coming with your Stinger? I think the tires are going to have a bigger impact on your car in the rain compared to it being RWD. I believe RWD Stingers came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, which are a summer performance tire. So keep that in mind if temps get low. But looking at online reviews, it appears the PS4s have decent traction in the wet.

The Pilot lineup of tires are all good in the rain. Just not the cold.

I'd say in order of importance...

1) Tires
2) Driver who knows how to handle a vehicle when it's not dry [ie - when not to be an id10t]
3) Drivetrain

You should have no problems with RWD in the rain. The important thing is to have good tires and be smooth and gentle in bad conditions. I‘m in Canada and driven RWD cars in all kinds of weather situations from heavy downpours, blizzards and spring melts (huge puddles). My cars have always been sports cars from British sports cars to several Corvettes. In the CorvettesI, I’ve been through a few hydroplaning sitations where all four tires were boating without incident. The key is to not do anything stupid and be gentle on the controls. My wife has driven at 75 to 80 mph in heavy rain with no problem And that was with 285’s on the back..

That’s great information to have, thank you. Im not sure what tires are coming on it but I’ll find out. Not expecting it until April so at least it’ll be warm out for the first 5 or so months for me.

Awesome. Thank you. The first thing I plan on doing is just learning the car. Im pretty sure I’ll be able to drive confidently in rough conditions in no time.
