Rust Proof

Anybody else rust proof their cars? I'm in a major salt belt and plan to drive this winter so I took the plunge. I got mine done yesterday and it was a bit of instant regret but I know in the long run it's probably the best for the car. My new car smell has be masked by the smell of this stuff and I didn't get a chance to tell them not to spray under the hood before they dissapeared with the car. They sprayed under the hood and all around the engine bay where metal is. I'm going to have some serious cleaning to do in the spring...

Bleh. To proof, or not to proof, that is the question. I hadn't even considered a smell factor. Now I'm less inclined to bother.

My winter battle plan is to go to the local car wash and have them spray out the underside every week that it snows, or the salted roads are otherwise wet and gunking up the underside of my car. (Warranty actually stipulates that this is an expected action on the part of the owner in places where salt conditions prevail.) A monthly car wash pass seems like a smart addition to help keep the cost down a bit.

The dealer I'll be buying my car from has this little electronic box thing to rust-proof the car; is it actually effective? I don't quite agree with the science behind it....but i'm no engineer.

So it’s pretty much proven that those things are junk and only really work on marine applications like boats. At least that’s what I’ve heard.

Those devices don’t work. Waste of money
