In Sept I'll be searching for a 2019 GT2. I intend to immediately buyout the lease. In doing my pre-buying research, I've been looking at long term reviews as I intend to keep the car for a while. The problem here is that they understandably all refer to the 2018 GTs. I have been negatively impressed with reports of rotor warping and a lot of creaks with the 2018s. So, realizing that the 2019s may not have a lot of miles on them, I nonetheless, wouldn't mind hearing from those who have a "fair" amount of miles on their GTs. Also, do you think that KIA may have done anything to fix these issues with the 2019 models?

I would really like to know the answer to this question as well. However, I doubt it will be clear cut. Some people have 18s with no issues, some people have issues. Just like any other car. The old saying of not to buy a first model year car, maybe something to it, maybe not.

Mine is a March 2018 build, took delivery in September 2018. Currently around 6000 miles (I don't drive a lot). There are a few little ticks and tap noises in the interior, but I've been dealing with my dealer for months over the sunroof currently with no resolution, and I am not the only one. In my car, that is the most stand-out annoyance in what is otherwise a very pleasant car to drive (dynamically especially). The most concerning thing in this situation (and I'm not the first one to have this happen), the dealer used a NEW Stinger from their lot to compare and it also exhibited noises from the sunroof and was thus determined to be "not abnormal."

I have had no issues with my rotors building up pad deposits or vibrations, but I also don't ride the brakes, I brake late, and sometimes I brake [somewhat] hard to clear off the deposits.

I have a 2019 GT1 Awd, purchased in March 2019. About 8500 miles now with no brake problems/ rotors warping.
However my interior has had multiple creaks that have been driving me insane the last few months. First I had door frame creaks (I put lubricant on the door rubber seals and added some metal between the door striker and door frame) this information is in a big thread with some other solutions.

The armrest cover creaked when putting any weight on it, mostly fixed it by taking it apart and adding some felt tape and some soft mesh material between the two parts of the armrest cover.

And now my steering wheel creaks when turning and it can be replicated by pressing in on the bottom sides where the horn assembly/airbag section meets with the rest of the steering wheel. Going to disconnect the horn assembly when I get the time and add some felt tape to the back.

At least my sunroof has been quiet (knocks on wood) Korean quality!

I have been wanting to do this too but have been struggling to get the back 3 screws loose because how close they are to center console with the lid open. Did you just use skinny screwdrivers?

I tried getting those 3 screws out..well I got the 2 bottom side screws out but couldn’t get the middle bottom screw and was starting to mess up the console trim so just put the others back. The way I got to the inside of the armrest cover was taking the top screws out behind the rubber bumpers and holding it apart. It opens up enough to get in there and add some tape or padding. I’m still thinking about buying the suede armrest cover because this one is still noisy sometimes.

Holy Crap!?, @CeramicGT001 That's some list of noises and "fixes".

First year model: predominantly not an issue with the Stinger. We all read/hear of exceptions (as here).

Just make sure (OP) that you thoroughly inspect and drive the car you are considering. A MY18 should be fine if you are circumspect.

My 2019 has developed “creaks” as well and has only done 2400 kms (1400 miles) and in so many places I really can’t work out from where they are emanating from.

The problem is commonly mistaken as rotor warping but in actuality its deposits from the brake pads cooling onto the rotors after they get a few thousand miles on them. Its temporary and goes away as soon as it comes. I just went through it and the shaking was gone in less time than it took me to get through a tank of gas. I've heard doing a few hard braking events clears it up quicker but I did not dedicate time to that. I do occasionally drive spiritedly so maybe that is the trick.

There is also a known fix for the sunroof too. I believe they need to replace the washers with a different material washer or something like that. KIA service is hit or miss so it may take you actually printing the tech memo and giving it to them so they realize it's a known problem.

Good luck!

On initial start up once the engine has fired, I get a creak like a tiny shake noise and then it’s gone....puzzling.

Maybe my ears are just too sensitive or I’m being too critical of the car. The car is still very quiet inside so any small noise/rattle/creak is amplified and I have a short patience for sh** like that.

Me too!
Coincidentally I just got rid of my Mazda 6 2011 hatch and after 97,000 kms (60,000 miles) it never had a rattle, squeak nothing.

I’m sure in the future Kia will work on this as it’s their first real foray into high end cars.

"Washers" are not in the sunroof. That fix is for the hatch rattle.

Time to turn up the volume on the Harman Kardon! Sound is our most critical sensory perception. And of course our expectations from Kia are high: they hyped the Stinger as a luxury ride, after all.

2019 gt2 awd. 3000 miles, zero creaks or rattles.

'18 GT2, February 2018 build, bought in September 2018...12.5k miles.

I had a sunroof "noise" but not the click or tic described in many forums...more of a rubbing noise almost immediately. I applied a thin layer of Shin-Etsu grease around the entire seal (had it from an old Acura TLX issue) and noise went away and hasn't come back.

I have had the rotor/brake issue, but I'm working withe a great dealer (not the one I bought it from...had to drive ~100 miles to get the Ceramic Silver/Red Nappa...there were only 2 in Texas at the time) who knows how to play the game with Kia. First they replaced pads at 9k, then machined rotors at 11k. They told me not to worry about the 12k brake warranty limit as they have enough documentation to support full rotors/pads. Now at 12.5k, car is going back this week for rotors/pads as there is again a mild vibration.

Yes, it has been a mild inconvenience, but I have a really supportive dealership who, BTW, gives me a new Optima SX as a loaner each time.

I've had no other issues and would buy this car again tomorrow.

2019 GT2 same here. No creaks, rattles, nothing. Just pure fun.

2018 GT2. 21,000 miles. No noises ever.

The brand pad issue is easily rectified.

It's a great car!

So great, we also bought a Telluride.
