So, I have a 2019 Stinger GT1 and dont have much money and the wife is out of work. My pads are down to 4mm and 3mm. I was quoted by the Kia dealer for pads and rotor replacement something like $3,200. I have maybe 2K I can come up with.

Is it possible to have the brembos removed and just get some ok but not great brakes put on there so I dont have to pay the huge expense from Brembos?

I dont race, I dont drive fast, I just commute and drive like a grandma.

I need to get the cost down to 1500 - 2000 but not sure how.

Any ideas if I should call local shops or other places or how I can just get the expense down...I'm freaking out a little bit.

Thanks.

Do your rotors actually need replacement?
If you have no vibrations and on your first set of pads, it's a good chance that your rotors could survive with another set of pads.

If you have money problem at the moment, I would highly suggest doing it yourself. You will be shocked how much you can save. There're some videos on YouTube about replacing stinger brakes. It's very easy to do.

I have vibrations but I also had them very badly 6 months ago and when I got new rear tires the vibrations went away...so that might just be my wheel balance...I cant tell the difference. I called a local mechanic which is right across from my office and he is looking into pads and will check the rotors.

if all you're replacing is pads, it is so easy on this car. calipers don't even have to come off. find an independent to just do a pad change, and get some affordable pads on rockauto. powerstops worked well for me, but others have their preferences.

Yeah I just replaced my Rotors and Pads with R1 Concepts Drilled and Slotted and DFC Ceramic pads for 450 total, dealership quoted me $2,800.00. It's under warranty if they do it though. Also depending on where you live just make sure you have the tools to tackle stuck/rust welded parts, that can make it much much more difficult for a DIY.

100% this, most of the time pads are sufficient. If you ntoice shake when braking and especially on downhill braking for a period when the pads/rotors get hot, then it's possible the rotors are also in need of replacement. But also, the original pads leave reside and this often creates an uneven surface on the rotor which mimics 'warp', so again new pads are sufficient in this case as the new pads could eat away at the original pad deposits. There's several threads on this forum about this topic, worthy of reading more if you want.

$3000 is a ripoff/captive audience pricing. $500(?) for quality pads and rotors, plus maybe $150(?) to pay some random shop to do it. It's an hour job for someone who knows what they're doing. Stealership.

Bruh. this type of shit really brings my piss to a boil. $3200 is insulting. Like others have said, get the parts on your own. It really is a super easy process if you wanted to do it yourself.

This is an over priced repair but I add typical of what you see of German cars and it's just a rip off.

Search out replacement brake pads. You should be able to get these for under $500 for front and rear and about $300 for front only. Often you won't even need to replace the rear as they don't wear anything like the front.

You do not need to machine or replace rotors unless they are damaged and 99% of the time they are not.

Even if you take these pads to a local mechanic they can probably do them for you for $500 labor.

There are also plenty of videos on youtube showing you what to do. Search Stinger brake pad replacement.

yeah total rip off price, sheesh. What's their labor rate? $650 per hour or something?

Unless your car just outright won't pass an inspection due to rotor thickness then don't replace them

And unless you are just simply very, very NON mechanically inclined a pad replacement is pretty straight forward.

I wouldn't even bother with rotors as they're probably fine (post some pictures if you want). Like others have said, just start with brake pads.

And I'm not sure of your level of experience/comfort, so maybe the suggestions to do it yourself are daunting, but it doesn't involve very many tools or taking much apart. Depending on where you're located, there may be someone nearby who'd be willing to do it with you in exchange for beer.

Wow! That's more than what it cost to replace my rotors and pads on my C7 Corvette! Which also has Brembo's. First issue, the dealer is probably charging you MSRP or more for the rotors and pads. There are plenty of Kia parts websites that sell those at a discount. Get the parts you need yourself and just find a good local mechanic to install them if you don't do it yourself.

Dealer was just trying to hit their monthly revenue target.

Centric makes pads and rotors for the Stinger GT and they are reasonably priced.

I’m about to do the same, how is the stopping power and brake dust compared to stock?

Definitely an improvement, the drilled might have been over kill but I like the aesthetic and don't mind changing pads a little more often since I DIY. But the biggest change was that I had vibrations when braking and now it's smooth as butter regardless of speed when braking.

If you're located near Maryland I'd be happy to replace the pads for $100. Provided you buy the pads.

I just ordered the R1 Geos with OEp pads, supposed to be low dust and good stopping for street. Will update here once we have them installed

Do you happen live in Austin? If so, order the parts, I’ll help you change them. And you’ll know how to for the next time. Just lmk.

What do you mean by, it's under warranty if they do it though?

You mean the $2,800 brake job would be free?
