Red looks good on my new Stinger!

Warning, short novel incoming! So as mentioned, I took it on a longer drive down to the folks for Christmas. It is about a 2 hour drive on farm to market roads and the interstate which has a variety of road conditions from brand new to greatly needing replacement. I drove it down while the sun was up and back after the sun went down. As a note, my previous car was a 2010 Nissan Altima with all the bells, so it was a nice car. I'll compare it several times here.

Noise, handling, and comfort
Boy is this thing comfortable. The road noise is not gone, but much quieter than my Altima. It was a very windy day on the drive down, and even that was muted. The ride was very smooth. I could still feel bumps, drops, and the dividers between concrete slabs on bridges, but it was a muted feel. I could definitely feel the difference in the suspension from my old car. The Stinger is just a pleasure to drive. It is effortless to control, steering seems very precise to me, and it is very well mannered both on the curvy FM roads as well as the interstate. Even the gusty wind did not dramatically affect how it seemed to handle. Now that I have my seat dialed in the way I want, and the steering wheel where I want it, it is very comfortable to drive even 2 hours straight. I never felt fatigued. The Nappa leather is just fantastic. My Altima had leather, but this is so much better than what it had. The climate control is very nice, keeping me cool while toasting my wife (as desired). The dual zone control really seems to work well. The heated and ventilated seats are fantastic. Warming/cooling very quickly. There are also several positions I could rest my arms that were very comfortable, and allowed me to move around so my shoulders/back would not get too stiff. In all respects, a step up from my already comfortable Altima.

Tech
I have the lane departure warning on, but no corrective action (it has three levels: warning, standard correction, and more aggressive correction). The lane departure seems a little sensitive, but maybe I weave too much. I'll leave the warning on, but don't think I will use the correction outside of really long drives where I might get tired. The HUD is fantastic and very easy to read. I enjoyed having the speed limit and my speed posted, as well as the blind spot notification showing up directly in my view (blind spot notifications show up on the HUD and on the mirrors). I did notice a few times where it seemed the image was not clear on really rough roads, so I wonder if the projector is not as stable as we might want, but I only noticed it once and could not reproduce it. The adaptive cruise control is amazingly smooth. I've left it at the default follow distance (max), and it really can detect cars at quite some distance. It adjusts smoothly, even braking when cars cut into the follow zone. It was so smooth that on occasion I found myself going 5 MPH or more under the limit because it slowed to the speed of the car in front! The follow distance and cruise speed show up on the HUD, and if there is a car sensed ahead, it actually shows that on the HUD as well. Very easy to use. The navigation is also very nice. The system seems easy to use (only done it once), and the directions are given very clearly. They also show up on the HUD. Driving at night, the auto-dimming rear view mirror and side mirrors work wonderfully. I had a dimming RVM before, but the side mirrors dimming is so nice. No more having to hold my hand in front of the mirror to keep the truck lights from blinding me! The LED headlights are fantastic. They are very bright and clear. The tracking when you turn the wheel is a little alarming at first, but I very quickly grew to like it. I haven't played with the auto high beams much yet, but they seem to do what they are supposed to as they dimmed to low beams when a car approached from the opposite direction.

Sound
As I've mentioned before, I am no audiophile. I do like the audio system in the Stinger. The preset levels were very flat, but after playing with the bass mid and high tones, it sounds much fuller to me. Even on a low volume, I get a nice thump from the system. I haven't crawled around to see if it is coming from the bottom door speaker or the under seat sub, but I can't see the door speaker putting out this much thump. The mids are very clear, such that I can very easily understand the singer. Very pleased. I really enjoy the exhaust note as well. It sounds nice on startup, and has a nice burble while it sits there. Engine noise on acceleration is very enjoyable as well. Maybe I just don't have a good reference point to compare it, but I like it as is.

Performance
I haven't gotten to do much with it yet, as I am still breaking in the car, but I floored it a few times and it really pushed me back into the seat. Even at full throttle, I felt in full control. More later as I get to play.

Future items
I dropped her off this morning to get the front end wrapped and the rest ceramic coated (including wheels and calipers). The dealer tinted it before I ever saw it, but I asked the guy doing the paint protection to see if it was quality film. If not, I'll have it redone. I am debating on what to do about the front license plate. In Texas, we are required by law to have the front plates. Kia has indentations already in the bumper to facilitate this, but the mount still must be screwed into the bumper. I really like the clean look without it, so I am looking into alternatives so that I can easily remove it when I want to take some photos. I know there are tow hook mounts, and I might look into those before doing something irreversible like drilling through the bumper.

If you are still with me, the short of it is I am still madly in love. I have absolutely no regrets on this purchase. I smile every time I walk into my garage, and grin like a crazy person when I am driving it around.

If you have any questions, want me to clear something up, or want me to talk about something in particular that maybe I haven't yet, please ask. I am so excited about this car and love to talk about it!
Thank you, @Johnnyfive! It's not a long read at all if you're as interested as we are... Was the ride in your Altima soft? If so, how does the Stinger compare? I'm going to guess the inside of the Stinger is a lot more quiet than the Altima is. Correct?

The Stinger is in all ways better than the Altima (except maybe with respect to visibility). Quieter, smoother, less body roll. The Altima was a good car, but the Stinger has it beat.

I have to agree with you 100% on your assessment! I've had mine almost 2 weeks and have almost 1200mi on it already. Most of it has been back and forth to my dad's, shopping for him (60 miles, round trip), Christmas, the whole 9 yards, but I haven't complained one bit! :) Though, I haven't heard the rattle that people have been mentioning. Then again, I rarely drive without the radio on. :)

Hi all. I wanted to give a more detailed description of my experience so far. I really love this car! I've had it for 24 hours now, and I have not yet been disappointed. The ride is very smooth. Bumps are still noticeable, but not nearly as much as in my Altima. It is very quiet as well. Minimal road noise, nice note from the engine/exhaust (in my opinion), and the sound system seems good to me though I am no audiophile. The climate control is very nice, and cools off very quickly (still somewhat warm afternoons in Texas!). The HUD is really nice and clear, though I can't see it with my polarized sunglasses on. It displays your speed, the speed limit (GPS based, I think), safety info such as lane departure and blind spot warnings (which is really nice!), cruise control settings, and radio settings for presets (I think, haven't played much with it yet).

The suspension. Man, the ride is smooth compared to my Genesis Coupe, it's like night a day! Though in all honesty, I did like the stiffer suspension in the Coupe. I like the Sports Mode suspension but I wish it was a teeny bit stiffer.

The adjustments on the seat are great. Dialing in the height, tilt, lumbar, thigh cushion, and bolster firmness basically let me design my ideal driving position. Pedal position feels right as well. Everything feels well thought out and ergonomically placed. I have no trouble reaching anything, though I am 6'3". Rear visibility through the rear window is limited, but not so much that you can't see anything. The side mirrors are very nice, and tilt down while in reverse to help see (still wish we had that 360 camera though). Idle stop and go seems to work well. A lightly depressed pedal seems to not let it activate, but upon providing more pressure on the pedal the system shuts the engine down. It starts back up immediately and with no noticeable issues when leaving the stopsign/stoplight.

I agree with you here. I've been finding out little things here and there as well. My surprise was when i found out the mirrors tilted while in reverse! I about giggled like little school girl! Our work requires us to pull in, pull out, back in, back out, while in our work trucks (safety thing, blind spots, etc) and it is now a habit to back into parking places and i think I hit the L/R button while backing in and was like WTF just happened? I had to break out the manual just to find out what I did so I could undo it and I constantly use the tilt button now.

The blinker sound is nice, and the horn is not bad. I was afraid of some little dinky horn, but this isn't. It could maybe use some extra oomph, but its acceptable. The manual and other books come in a nice sleeve with magnetic clasp. It does, however, take up most of the glove box. I can easily fit a Canon Rebel T6 in the center console, though (oddly specific, I know, but I just tried and was surprised). The accent lighting on the passenger dash is very subtle and looks great at night.

Blinker sound is nice; subtle yet alerting. It's not so IN-YOUR-FACE but loud enough to get your attention so that you aren't "one of those people" that drive down the highway for 60 miles with your blinker on. You know, I haven't tried the horn yet and thankfully, I haven't needed to use it yet. I've been scared to try it because I'm afraid it might be one of those, "Oh my God, did he just sneeze or was that the car horn?" :) The manual, yes, it is pretty thick and does take up a lot of space. I might have to take it inside and put it on my desk or bookshelf. Yes, I was almost disappointed in the ambient lighting because you can't see the lights during the day, but at night? Nice and subtle and sweet!

The back seat occupants can control the temperature independent of the front, and have power ports as well. Seats seem comfortable, though the roof is a little low as expected. Trunk room is enormous! Shouldn't have any issues fitting suitcases in there. The drive is wonderful, put even a little pressure on the gas and away you go. Give it more, and it pushes you back into your seat. I have the AWD, and so far have really felt complete control. It has a nice turning radius, perhaps due to the AWD.

I can't speak for the back seating because I've haven't ridden back there yet. Trunk room? I could fit a dead body back there, no problems! :cautious: Comfort mode is by far my most used mode, but I do use Sport every now and then. While in Sport mode, the 8 speed transmission waits until about 2500-3000 RPM, depending on the weight of your lead foot (unless cruise control is activated and then it will use all 8 gears, acting like Comfort) , the throttle sensitivity is, wow, the steering and suspension stiffens up. Switching between the two is seamless, even while the car is in motion. I tried launch control the other night and O M G! I've ridden in some punchy vehicles before but you don't expect it in... 'this' car. I will need to go someplace with less traffic and safer and play with it some more!

One thing I would like to add, the adaptive cruise control is awesome! It will slow you down, speed you up, all while maintaining a safe distance from traffic in front of you, including in stop and go traffic in town. However, it should NEVER replace you keeping your eyes on the road and attention to driving. If you round a sharp enough corner and come up to traffic, it may not 'see' the car in front of you in time. I've tried to take some 'blind spot' turns and go as long as I could without my a**hole puckering up but I just can't do it. I just don't want to push it, know what I mean? hehe

He has had it since last Tuesday. I could have picked it up today but I couldn't get over there before he closed for the day. It would not have taken that long, but he found a very small rock chip in my hood and had to wait for a paint kit to fix it.

I see. Okay, well it's good that he took care of the rock chip in the hood. I imagine that had to be done before moving forward...
