Are there any current Stinger owners experiencing issues with the Recirculated Air not remaining 'on' and switching automatically to Fresh Air?
The only time that the Recirculated Air remains on is when the windows and sunroof are closed. When in Recirculated Air position it will automatically switch to Fresh Air after around 5 minutes or as soon as a window and/or sunroof is opened. It doesn't matter whether it's in Auto or Manual modes and/or face, feet or both. I understand in de-frost it will automatically go to fresh but I'm aware of that.
I have read the manual and have gone through the different settings and have turned off Auto Defogging system, Auto Ventilation System, Smart Ventilation System etc with no change. I'm going to see my dealer this week as I'm due for the 3000km check and I will ask them then.

Can any one confirm if this is happening to them?
I'm frustrated as I always get a whiff of exhaust fumes and I wan't to decide when I have fresh air or not.
Thanks

Im only guessing but maybe when you switch on the Recirculated Air, it only circulates the air in the car, which you already know, no fresh air from outside, and that is why when the windows and sunroof are closed, it seems to stay on, when you open a window or the sunroof, fresh air is entering the car cabin, which defeats the purpose of only recirculating the inside air, maybe we under estimate the tech features the Stinger has included, maybe the system knows when a window or sunroof is open, and knows fresh air is entering the cabin, and automatically after 5 minutes, if you do not change it manually, it decides you prefer fresh air, and changes on it own.
Also, if your getting hit with exhaust fumes, that is because you have fresh air / exhaust fumes entering from outside through the vents, windows and sunroof when open, the purpose of recirculating the air in the cabin, is to not have windows or sunroof open, which will let in those exhaust fumes, looks like maybe we can not have the best of both worlds, and have a window open while the recirculating air is on.
Please correct me if i am wrong, or maybe it could be a fault, hopefully the dealer or an other forum member can advise.

Mine does something similar, but so did my Optima

That may be the case but if that is Kia's reasoning I'm not agreeing. It's something that I have never encountered before. Most of the time I drive with the sunroof either tilted or open fully and no fumes enter the car but as soon as it's on Fresh Air the fumes enter the car.

So I'll assume it's something that Kia has programmed and it cannot be changed? If thats the case it is my first real dislike about something on this car. I've never encountered this with previous cars and this will be one of those annoying things that I'll have to get used to.
It's almost like driving with OCD waiting for the Fresh Air button light to eliminate lol, and then my eye starts to twitch.

When the outside fresh air is blowing into the cabin, it's not just fresh air, its anything else in it , like exhaust fumes, like that ugly egg smell, when a car in front floors it, smoke smell from a nearby fire, the ventilation system doesn't filter the bad smells to the point you do not have it enter the cabin. Unless you have the windows closed and sunroof closed and in Recirculating Air mode, it closes off air from outside, exhaust fumes and all.

Mine doesn’t seem to do it as much as yours so not sure. If it is preprogrammed like that, try swapping out the cabin air filter for a carbon activated air filter. It should help with the smells.

This annoys me too but the Stinger isn't the only car that does this. My 08 Si didn't do this but when I rented an 08 TL, my friend's 09 TSX, and another friend's IS, the recirc vent will go back to fresh air after the A/C has been turned off. I'm not sure why.

Mine does the same bloody thing, I have told the dealer about it and they got no idea how to fix it, so I called Kia customer service 3 times and all 3 times they said that someone will call me back and still nothing, really frustrating it’s the only thing I hate about my stinger.

Mine does the same thing to, and it is a 2020 GT1.
I have the “Smart Ventilation” feature unchecked, but the fresh air mode comes on 5 minutes or so after I press the recirculation button.

I have the exact same car as you; exact same problem. Came on here just for this issue. Sadly looks like nothing can be done. Bummer.

I just placed these settings to what the picture shows and the recirculating button stays put unless you open the sunroof and my 16 Optima did that.

Interesting. I have the sunroof now & actually love having it open most days. That might be a way for me to keep it on recirculated.
These exhaust fumes drive me insane.

I was reading that the auto switch back to fresh air is a safety feature. Driver "in theory" not getting enough oxygen while driving. So lame....

When not using the sunroof, I'll see if the setting you showed works. Good stuff.

Appreciate the reply man!

Hello,
Not sure if you even have your Stinger any longer, but with my week old Stinger GT1 I as well find the fresh air button being on and changing on its own from the recirculation button.
Not sure if my Smart Ventilation setting is off, why I can not keep my recirculation button pressed and have it stay put?
