Funny how people talking about importance of keeping the things the way it was built, and than running to the car, ripping intakes out, putting aftermarket ones in, saying it made it better. You are hilarious guys. if somebody removes just that piece, thinking it's gonna make a difference, obviously it is silly. But if you want to shed 150-250lbs, that piece is 2-3% of the total goal. Me personally, want to make my awd v6 stinger to weight less than rwd 4cylinder model, without ruining the DD of the car. For the same reason (no reason), someone is trying to get 1/4 mile under 11 sec

yeah, screw it, I'm leaving mine off too! Heading back to the track in March, but this time sans a rear seat, spare, and all the other crap in the back. I bet I'm down 200lbs from stock. lighter wheels, exhaust, etc. I did add a damn intercooler and heavier sway bars , plus two gallons of water meth, so maybe only 150 lbs down now that I think about it. Next stop, racing seats!

Racing seats would be great way to remove A LOT of weight. I am sure stock ones are 60-70lbs each. Unfortunately this mod is out of my league. So i'll wait till someone does it, so i can copy

“Planted” makes the base bracket for the Stinger front seats, then you can get whatever seats you want. I think you could get a decent pair for 1k, then another $500 or so for two brackets and two sets of sliders.

I have no problem with installing the seats. I even have enough skills to fabricate the brackets for it. I am completely clueless about electrical part of it. Like seat sensors and air bag. Also not sure if putting aftermarket seat without air bag might cause the problems with insurance. (Declining the coverage in the case if needed). So it is definitely something i will wait until somebody else does it right way. Wich makes me believe, i will never install them in my car. But if you decide to take on it, i will be watching very closely. :notworthy:

I hear you. We’ll see how much track time I get in this year. I may abandon the platform altogether and get a golf R or a civic type R. Stinger is RWD and has a ton of power though. So fun just walking away from Mustangs and Camaro’s on the track. I Don’t daily the car so I can basically live with any mods. Wish I could afford a cayman or 911, but not happening. As far as seats, I think you will have the airbag light on as the airbags will be disconnected. I would likely put my regular seats back in between track events though. I took out the backseats and made a vanity cover out of super thin wood and wrapped it in felt. It looks pretty good and covers up the back seat area. At the track I just pop it out. Thing weighs maybe 5 or 6 lbs so I get the benefit of no backseat all the time. It almost looks like my seats are just folded down.

Curious why you would get a type r/golf r over the stinger? Weight purposes is the only thing i can think of.

yes, really just weight...specifically for track use. Since I don't drive much, and have recently become more interested in the track, it just has me thinking. On the other hand, getting the weight down on this car and keeping it is appealing too. I'm probably in a small group over over 50 somethings that still loves a hot hatch or a japanese tuner type car. I just love the feel of a go kart. I recently drove a Veloster type N and thought it felt and handled fantastic,, it was just too slow. My son has my previous car, a VW GTI, and it's full bolt on, stage 2.5 tune, weighs less than 3k lbs and is damn near as fast as My stinger once it's off the line and rolling. Just so great to drive. I kind of miss it. (also is a manual) It just handles so well.

Changing the stock wheels to much lighter TSW's ones i noticed more rear wheel spin. I assume there's a reason the stock are so heavy.

Up front the car is now 66lbs heavier than when i bought it. That has been my weight gain since 2017. And yes its been delicious all the way. My excuse; im sure some folk said they wanted to see more of me.:D

I still have 15lbs to loose in that department to get my natural weight back to 175

I'm about to do a video on it.... It's done

I'm sorry that was confusing. The seat has been in for months, The video isn't done yet. I actually have to pull it out to dry my carpet (long story). I figured with the seat out, I might as well do a video on how I fabricated the brackets, female seat buckle, and wiring considerations. I might get to it this week. Meanwhile, it will be on my YouTube channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_5bnQg6N6mboS8ACafZt6Q
Will be watching very closely! So how did you go about air bag? Seat heaters? Occupancy sensors? Very interested in electrical part of it. Also did you weight stock seats?

yes, Let's go Darrin! I know where I'm going if I make that leap!

Sort answer for all the electrical is just leave it B. All harness connectors just lay there. The Drivers seat weighs 66lbs, and the passenger is 62lbs.

I feel like you should start some weight savings tutorials :)

Do you have any lights on? I thought you have to bypass or integrate all the sensors into new seat not to cause any error codes. 128lbs for both seats will give an opportunity to shed close to 100lbs with racing seats. Nice!! Will be impatiently waiting for the video.

Race seats have zero accommodations for electronics. I though I would get a seatbelt warning or buzzer but nothing, gtg. The only light on the dash is a drivers airbag, no dings, no other warnings and the car performs normal.

I did a search on air bag. And looks like people are putting a resistor in air bag connector to trick the system. Not sure if this can work with stinger. Are you dd your car, or is it just a track car?
