Re: 2021 - Let's cut to the chase

I mean. Cool, a fragmented amount of brands and software versions, apps that can gain questionable access to your phone, and battery life that is only fixed by stuffing bigger batteries in them. I can see why that's attractive to the world. Personally, I'll stick to my iPhone.

1. Is it or is it not going to have a fully-digital instrument cluster?

2. Is it or is it not going to have wireless Android Auto and Carplay?

3. Is it or is it not going to have the 10.25" nav screen?

I keep reading one thing and then another, and I wonder if anyone knows the real answers.

I can help with #2
Wireless Andriod auto is dependent on your phone and not the car.
I have an Samsung S7 so I still need to plug it in.

. . . I have an Samsung S7 so I still need to plug it in.
I have a Samsung S7 Edge and when I got the Stinger about a year ago, Android Auto wouldn't work unless the phone was plugged in. If the phone was plugged in (tried a dozen different cables), Android Auto wouldn't connect to it. Therefore AA was totally useless, all the time, in all ways, under all conditions. Phone calls and all other apps worked just fine without any cable, Blu-tooth seemed to handle everything.

About 6 months ago my phone downloaded an update to Android Auto {Version 5.4.502264}. Suddenly AA began working just fine with no cable. Then I discovered AA didn't do anything at all that I needed or wanted. I didn't uninstall the app, I just didn't use it at all.

Until a couple of days ago. Went into my Kia dealer for oil + filter change. Went off to sit in the waiting room and play games on my phone. In an hour or so, suddenly my Sudoku was interrupted by a screen full of AA. Ah Ha! My car is finished and back to the front. Finally, something useful from Android Auto.

It is likely you tried charge only cables or the USB port is faulty on your Stinger.

Cmon on bro? Do Europe then. Less than 25% market share for ios vs 75% Android. Only Americans drive and use smartphones if you want to push a narrative right?
Your right. I’m sure in the context of Stinger owners using apple car play... Apple is irrelevant.

I frankly don’t care. I’m looking at when the fancy foldables come down price anyway (if they can show long term reliably). MOTO RAZR... I’m looking at you sweetie.

I’m not a pure Apple fanboy.

Congrats on winning a meaningless post war. Lol. (And in my defense, I never said global... and my screenshot was clearly US market)

Sorry, I should have better described the diagnostics. I do have a few charge only cables, but keep them confined and labeled. Both the phone and the car work just fine exchanging data with each and other devices with USB cables and have from the beginning. Uploading contacts, playing music, updating Nav, etc. Actually, I do have one cable that the Stinger says, "USB cable has gotten wet. Please dry it off or use a different cable." The cable works just fine in any other application I have tried. So apparently the Stinger has some version of a GFI detector that is more sensitive than other devices with which I have used the cable.

The failure of Android Auto to connect by USB was due entirely to the previous version(s) (whatever they were) and was solved with the update to the listed version. It wasn't solved by a Kia entertainment system or Nav update or by updates from Samsung or the cell provider.

Come on, guys, I was just joshing about the iPhones. ;)

In any case, I guess our 2019 Stinger head units aren't set up for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Don't know about the 2020s. Rumor has it the 2021s will have it, but no one can confirm it.

Well that's a red herring. The subject being discussed was not fragmentation but Ill bite and say that choice and competition in the Android space is good for consumers. It drives innovation and reduces price. This is why Android phones have overtaken Apple as the innovators in the smartphone market and can offer models that match or exceed Apple's hardware specs for half the price. I would rather be able to choose from 10 restaurants all competing for my money than be fed the same meal over and over in prison. Your other arguments about app access and battery life signal that you likely have never actually used an Android phone.

I think this thread got a little derailed somewhere along the way. It was more on future features of the next Stinger not about phones.

Yeah, I think this is how threads get closed. ;)

Says the guy who still had to get in the last word in this "meaningless post war"... @Mike_TX was right, this is how threads get closed.
