Hi all,

Regarding the 'fake' engine sounds--are the sounds completely artificial (i.e. Kia designed them in some studio), or are they actually coming from a microphone in the engine compartment?

Was curious about this since I've seen different answers.

There is no mic in the engine hood. So it is recorded.

Thanks guys

Just imagine taking a work call while driving...

On a more serious note is there any way to completely turn off the recorded sounds? I don't really care what the car sounds like while I'm in it and do a lot of calls in the car. Quieter is better.

There is, after 2018: Custom (this is US spec) has the engine piping in the cabin, and where mine has three levels, anything after '18 has OFF as an option.

I've personally not been able to tell the difference between any of the modes on my '18. Sounds the same with the windows down too. Really don't know what it does, if anything.

That is my experience as well. But I selected the minimum engine sound output anyway.

Does selecting the engine sound options affect the external sound of the vehicle or only inside of the cabin? My older WRX and E36 did not produce fake sounds through speakers and microphones.

Outside is real. Inside is boosted through the speakers.

I keep it on normal as I feel like it increases my testosterone when in sports mode, but it might be my imagination :)

I'm happy to report my 2019 has the option to turn off interior sound completely. I'm fine with it sounding rumbly from the exterior but don't need that noise on the interior when I am on calls
