Wow! So much for slowing sedan sales globally. Porsche gearing up to produce record breaking 40,000 Taycans a year. They have already exceeded 20,000 reservations for the car globally. Will likely be Porsche's biggest seller in 2020.

Appears EV Sedans cant be built fast enough to fill demand. Just between Tesla and Porsche/Audi they will be producing nearly 100,000 luxury EV sedans a year in 2020. ...Talking about sucking all the oxygen out of ICE luxury sedan markets. Very impressive.

Wonder what Kia will do? Sit back and watch as luxury market is dominated by EVs and Hybrids? Or build luxury EV of their own to replace their aging ICE fleet of luxury offerings?

Porsche plans to produce an impressive 40,000 all-electric Taycan cars per year, report says

I don't think Kia/Hyundai are far behind. From the reviews I've seen of the Kona EV, it's looking like it's going to be one of the best EVs in its class. They're just one poached Tesla engineer away from a game changing all electric performance sedan hahaha

No doubt that Kona and Soul EVs are going to be very successful. I just don’t see any progress from Hyundai or Kia in luxury realm. Market is pretty much screaming loud and clear that luxury EVs are where it’s at.

EVs are going to pull market from Genesis and even Kia

Porsche plans to sell 40000 $100k plus MSRP Taycans. If Kia and Hyundai are going to change perception just think they’d enter high end EV markets. They still seem to be lagging.

Instead they are introducing under powered V6 sort of ugly cut price 3 row SUV into upscale markets.

Instead of stealing engineering talent maybe a couple marketing stars to help them with figure out product strategy.

Do you think a Genesis EV could compete?

I do.

At the high end, for Kia, I think no as well. The K9 was too late to the game.

At the low end, however, I think the Soul and Rio and other smaller vehicles could do well. I certainly see plenty of Souls running around..

High-end EV markets? They're supposed to be going head to head with Porsche now? They just managed to change brand perception faster than any other brands in the history of automobiles. Now they're working on CUVs. Give them a chance. They're not going to compete with the top dogs overnight.

Dude, Hyundai and Kia have been trying to change brand ID for over a decade. It’s a slow process and they have not been overly successful at changing perceptions of markets in general especially in North America and Europe.

And no never said they should go head to head with Porsche. They should go into entry luxury EV markets and grab it while it’s there. They are way behind in areas where they need to be leading.

Not only have they been TRYING to change brand perception - they HAVE changed brand perception. Where have you been? The only areas they haven't changed brand perception is the luxury CUV market - which they are about to with Telluride and Genesis -- and the luxury EV market - which is brand new. They are late to the CUV game, like Cadillac, and I guess they're late to the EV game - but they were a throw-away brand just a few years ago. They've come a long way. They can't be all things for you in a single generation.

How many luxury automotive companies have ev luxury sedans right now? Considering the Porsche isn't even for sale yet is it.... one? One car company? If Kia/Hyundai is behind, then I guess almost every single other car company is too. 25k model S's were sold last year, that's not exactly a screaming market quite yet. For comparison, Kia/Hyundai sold almost 1.25 million cars in 2018.

I hope this market grows and Hyundai jumps on board, but they're positioned just fine right now. Virtually no one who's buying a 100k Porsche EV would buy a Kia EV if given a choice between the two.

Can assure you all big luxary car makers have EVs ready to go. Porsche has received 20000 $2500 reservations for Taycan that is ready to start production this year. Audi too. Jaguar, bmw and Mercedes all ready too.

Just seems like Kia is satisfied with Cheap EV markets. No pre publicity on any big EVs in more premium markets or hell even a hybrid.

If Kia is going to change perceptions they will need to be a technology leader not a follower satisfied making cheaper versions of existing cars.

Stinger while late was a good try but not seeing anything in premium space that is standing out now that puts them in leadership role.

BMW has the I4 coming out in maybe 2021, but you know how those dates go. All the other guys are just releasing EV suvs, have you seen something I haven't?
