Looks like the upper half to mid portions of the US (and other parts of the world) are experiencing some wicked cold weather! It's cold here in DC but when I heard how low it was in Chicago and that they pretty much close the city, I looked things up on a weather map and saw a lot of places are being affected. To all of you feeling the bite of cold, do your bast to remain warm and stay in.

It was like 18 in Atlanta. Clearly I’m not made for the cold as that was painful to me.

I can’t image 40 below. F that.

-30c here for the next week or so starting Friday. :(

Used to live in Detroit... imagine the opposite of sticking your hand in boiling water. So glad I moved to SC, lol

I experienced - degree weather in Kansas and Minnesota and it's not fun.

A pretty steady -30c here for the past couple days. -45 factoring the wind chill.

I'm definitely ready for winter to end.

Spent 13 winters in N Dskota. This morning in Minot their wind chill is like -45. They have a win chill warning calling for -40 to -55.

My first Xmas there is was -27 wind chill-60. And January is the coldesr month...

We have a saying in North Dakota. -30 keeps the riffraff out ;-)

That’s not far from me here in Regina area. Ive driven down to Minot a few times.

Looks like it should pass for this area by tomorrow. Can’t wait.

I went drinking in Regina a couple times in the mid-late 90s.. Nice town.

Coldest I ever felt in Wisconsin was a -74 F wind chill. It wakes you up. Don’t live there anymore.

Coldest I ever felt was right here, less than five minutes walk from our house. It was sub zero (something in the single digits) which is uncommonly cold for The Valley to begin with. Then there was a very stiff wind in my face. The wind chill must have been solidly in the minus twenties. My left eye FROZE open!?? Gah! I slapped my hand up there and massaged/covered it and got the lid down in a couple of seconds is all, but felt much longer. A truly horrible experience. I'm surprised I didn't get frost bite during that short walk; I guess it takes a bit longer than that. May I never live through another episode of that. I'm truly sympathetic of all you all in the NE right now.:poop::sick::sleep::thumbdown:

Getting reports of -25+ air temp and -45+ wind chill from home. (Mn). Happily sitting g in Florida on vaca complaining about the 60s it is here right now lol. Headed back tomorrow though....

Edit that farenheit too

Workmate was at the airport (ATL) waiting on his delayed flight to Chicago when he got word the meeting was being changed to remote web conference.

When local Chicago people say they're staying home vs. going to the office, you know it's BAD.. and he was grateful for the delayed flight or he'd have already been winging his way there..

22ºF here this morning, and I'm not complaining one bit. We were lucky to avoid what could have been a bad ice event yesterday, I'll take dry and cold any day..

We're getting it. But we're on the windward side of L Michigan, so it's relatively 'warm' - lows 0 to -10; windchills 'only' 30 below. Plenty of lake-effect snow though, about 18" the last few days. Hard to believe but they are calling for hi of 42 by Sunday. A 50+ degree difference. A "bi-polar vortex"? :p

Hmmm I wonder what the density altitude is when it's -30 out. Quick, someone do a 1/4 mile run with their draggy and report back :)

I remember one year going down south to the NCO Academy in January when I was stationed at Miinot. It cracked me up when we couldn't do our outside drill test (drill test being where we get graded on how we direct other students in marching) because it was below 50 degrees. Most were wearing jackets, and were cold. I am wearing short sleeve blue shirt and no coat. It was like summer vacation to me. The course was fun and easy and the weather was way better.

It’s so cold in Chicago they’re setting the tracks on fire so the switching mechanisms don’t freeze. Also heard someone in the Midwest had to use a blowtorch to get into a locked building since the lock was frozen. Yes, 50s by early next week. Crazy.
