Plastic burning smell ....

Yes. The manual warns against relying on cruise control going down long, steep grades. And my experience is checkered: sometimes the cruise takes over and shifts down to fifth gear to keep my speed more or less where I've set it; other times my speed just keeps going up well beyond the cruise setting and I have to bail out of CC. I haven't smelled any brakes in cruise control. I think that is a function of "smart" CC.
Definitely not related to Smart Cruise Control. I don't use it. My experience was in the mountains of Tennessee on vacation.

I've read these vehicles are coated with a rust prohibitor to make the trip from Korea to the US without rusting up. The smell was strong when I first got my Stinger, now I have 5K on it and it only smells after some spirited driving. It has gotten much weaker in strength and sometimes doesn't smell at all. My guess is you are smelling this, it can be quite strong at times.

Is your car on the wiring harness recall list and have you done the service if it is? You really shouldn't have a burning smell after the first 2000 miles or so. If you are babying the car maybe go out and have some fun with it and get the engine good and hot to get that smell to burn off. If it blows up, you'll learn where the smell was coming from.

It’s only after driving the car hard right after that I think it was coming from my brakes.

I haven’t smelt anything in while now I’m at almost 8000 miles now and its been a lot better

Good to hear. I went out for a good hard drive today and pulled over and zero smell now. I might have driven on oil or some other road crap. I have some black tar on the side so maybe that got on my exhaust or brakes. I did have my first oil change two weeks ago maybe they spilled some oil as well. What ever it was seems to be burned off now.

Hey guys,
I just noticed my car with a burning clutch smell, I don't know if it's the plastic smell everyone else on this thread is talking about. But I don't smell it when I moving just when I'm at a stop and also when my fan is turned on with the vent open, then when I start driving the smell goes away.
I got home and popped the hood but nothing had that burning smell. Only when the fan is on and the vent is open. Any idea? I had the car since March 2020 and I barely drive it cause of the pandemic and really had nowhere to drive to. I just hit 1300 miles. The only mod I have is the pedal tuner and I drive with comfort mode.

I have 6000mi on mine, and really smelled strong burning rubber plastic smell every once in a while, always with cruise control. I have a theory what it is. Stingers are known to have SEVERE brake wearing and many claim its just the pads used with the Brembos, but I think its all cruise control. I dont have any hills where I live, so its not the braking from cruise control (which it does brake A LOT when activated if you go down a hill... its very apparent then).. but the smell always happens on straight level road for me.. but with cruise control on(and on level road).. i can still feel what i describe as micro pulses.. its VERY faint (i have always been hyper sensitive to motion) I believe cruise control is braking very very very very slightly and very very fast as to where most people would even notice it.. even on flat roads. and it doesn't brake hard enough to activate tail lights but its ever so slightly. this all would make the narrative complete about this. everything makes sense. The plastic burning smell is the brake pads I believe. I could be wrong. best way to tell is to monitor heat from brakes which i havent been able to do really. wish i had a cam i could use to micro on the brakes during driving. will keep posted on this
