• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Pictorial where did you go in your Stinger today

Low altitude birdstrike!

Low altitude birdstrike!
Yeah well I may have been flying at the time lol. There was a bunch of them in the middle of the road as birds tend to do on country back roads and this old fat magpie just wasn’t quick enough getting off the deck to avoid me. There’s no way I was swerving for a bird. Years of living out west and driving back to the coast to visit friends/family you get used to road kill and near misses with wildlife. It’s a numbers game at some point your near miss will become a hit I guess. Generally speaking avoid driving at dawn and dusk and it’s usually not too bad.

I nearly got cleaned up many years ago by a big bastard of hawk/eagle of all things. It was eating some road kill right on the centre line. I was in one car with another one approaching from the other direction. This bloody bird left it to the last possible moment to start flying away and they take forever to get moving. It gave a couple of wing flaps which lifted it to windshield height before crossing directly in front of us. I was in the front passenger seat and was convinced it was going to end up in my lap. The last thing thing I saw before ducking and covering up was this huge wingspan right in front of my eyes. I still to this day don’t know we missed it as the oncoming car prevented any evasive action on our part.

Yeah, I've had the unfortunate task of picking a magpie out of the front grill of an old Volvo 760GLE. Not a lot of fun.

We saw a car hit a lorrikeets recently - a sudden puff of green feathers as it flew up in the air off the windscreen. Not nice. :(

The weirdest near miss I've had is when a friend and I wagged school and were hitch hiking to the beach. We got picked up by a VW beetle and a few minutes later a huge Pelican flew in front of the windscreen it scrapped the roof and was spun side ways but looked to escape serious damage. The first I saw was when it was right in front. 6" lower I may have not been typing this.

The only thing I hit once and didn't even know, was a little sparrow, it was stuck in the front grill of the Falcon, one of my kids noticed it when we got out and buried it.

I impaled a sparrow on my pitot tube of my aircraft once. The look on the sparrows face was rememberable .

I love magpies and lorrikeets, always eat out of my hands...so sad.

Had a hawk as a passenger on port wing leading edge shortly after take off from a strip I can't remember somewhere in NT, fortunately no damage to C210 and it plummeted to ground a few minutes later. RIP said hawk.

Then there's the King of air impacts with birds: Sully Sullenberger. Now there was a CF to end all CFs.

One time I was driving along, not very fast, and a pigeon flew right into the front edge of my hood, bounced up onto my roof, and finally bounced in the adjacent lane. In my rearview mirror, I saw the guy in a mini-truck in that lane pull alongside the poor bird and without ever stopping, open his door, scoop up the bird, slam the door, and continue on. Still don't know if he was a roving veterinarian or someone planning a squab dinner.

BTW, how did we get from "pictorial" to "roadkill"?

Thread death due to off topic..

I would rather a 1000 pictures than a 1000 words. Let get back to topic.

I am averaging about 70km a day at present, which will *just* get me to 25,000km a year for the novated lease.

I suspect we will be doing a few Canberra trips and the like to make sure I keep the km up!

Nice shots mate, I love Canberra, I’m hoping our ACT brothers & sisters have a Stinger meet & cruise & would definitely attend that.
Also your getting the same fuel economy as me on trips, this thing is phenomenal on juice.
Wanted to get a shot outside Parliament House but AFP around.

Yeah the AFP would be a bit adverse to “shots” outside Parliament House...lol.
