Pictorial where did you go in your Stinger today

Driving at night out of city and surbubia here is very risky, hitting Kangaroos and wombats are very common.

Im doing a 4 day trip to the southern part of the state to a town i have never been to for a bit of a holiday and site seeing. Its going to be a 7 hour drive from Sydney.
I will incorporate a Stinger count tally along with the customary road kill count. Last trip was enormous including many feral foxes. If you hit a big grey or red kangaroo you stay hit.
Ohh..poor foxies

Ok I’ll guess, Lakes Entrance or Echuca?

And for bonus points I’m tipping 3 Stinger sightings. This includes the return trip. Any other takers?
2 Sightings, I don't think there will be many in that area

Ok ill take it seriously i will have 3 pairs of eyes looking for Stingers. The trips is to Wagga Wagga which i know nothing about its just a place on the map i picked.

Fuel economy? Do i enjoy the lead foot sensation or do i do what i always do succumb to middle age sensibilities?

Stinger gtss is Echua close and what is your Stinger tally guess? Any others?
The prize will be a Winners medal on return.

Who cares about fuel economy. Just drive how you feel like at the time. Sometimes you feel like strapping it, sometimes you’re just mellowing out and cruising. Most importantly be safe and enjoy your trip. :)

Ok I'll put my thrash metal spotifier tracks on that should raise the pulse level to "life detected".

"Count tally!?" I wouldn't even run over a chipmunk if I can possibly avoid it. Guts, man, guts!

The "deer crossing" signs throughout Utah are common. I passed numerous warnings in my drive up through central Utah. And I even said out loud: "We'll have none of that, if You please!" (addressing God, which I do continuously). So far, living here all my life, the only deer "encounter" I ever (almost) had was years ago in my Voyager; in the daylight, if you can believe it: the stupid animal was running across an open field toward the road, on a perfect intercept course of angle and speed. I slowed down, the deer seemed to angle toward me to "compensate", and I slowed even more. I was practically down to walking speed when the deer finally flashed across the road within a few feet of my front bumper. I swear, some undeniable "magnetic force" draws deer to any traffic when they are crossing a road.

Ha,ha, no not me doing the killing the tally will be what I see lying on the road or side of the road. If I were to hit anything it would be trip over. The secret is not to drive at night because that's when all the wildlife comes out. The road kill is normally what the big trucks with bull bars hit overnight which is unavoidable as obviously the brain of your deers match that of our Marsupials.

Thanks for that reassurance. I don't count dead critters either. But that would be something to do on a long boring drive. Thing of it is, since even before the Stinger came into my life, my modus operandi when driving is to DRIVE. I engage with traffic and maneuvering and "tactics", etc. It keeps me alert and "engaged" in what I am doing, and makes the time flow by. Now, of course, time flows by much more smoothly, comfortably and speedily (in bursts of speed, of course, often :D). No time to look for dead things to make up a tally.

You said it long possibly boring drive something to keep the 13 year olds mind on rather than "Are we there yet"
The Stinger count will keep the wife awake.

The Stinger count will keep the wife awake.
If we did the "Stinger count", it'd put my wife to sleep (not actually, because she falls asleep all the time as it is). I didn't see a single Stinger going down to TX, in Wichita Falls, or coming back from TX; or in the two days since. "Business as normal", Stingers wise. The car wash guy in Wichita Falls said that mine was the first Stinger he knows of to come through there.

Your deer in America might be potential targets Merlin but over here they are vicious killers that will turn on you in a heartbeat.

Well Wagga Wagga is on 4.5hrs from Sydney so your fuel economy will be improved.

Yep, roos and wombats can really mess up a car. Smaller animal can cause significant cosmetic damage - but kangaroos in particular have a nasty habit of riding up the bonnet and in through the windscreen if you get them anywhere but firmly on the ground.

Emus can be nasty too - those toothpick legs hold the bulk of their body mass (up to 40kgs) quite high off the ground...

Sometimes it's unavoidable - you'd not want to cause a significant accident to avoid a little bit of blood and fur (or blood and feathers - bird strike is relatively common on remote highways as we have a large number of parrots that like to spend their time on the ground) from a smaller animal.

Stick to your middle aged sensibilities, double demerits run until midnight Monday night, and then start again on midnight Tuesday night and run until midnight Sunday night. That lead foot sensation could cost you a bit if you give in to it.

I’ve seen some bad accidents over the years, some of them fatal as a result of people swerving to avoid a roo and losing control/over correcting and hitting oncoming cars or trees etc. Sometimes it’s just easier to take the hit from the animal because whilst there will be damage it may be worse if you stuff up the attempt at avoidance. As for impacts with small animals and birds I lost a side mirror off my Commodore many years ago after a high speed impact with a magpie, broke the mirror off at the swivel join and left it hanging by the electric cables that controlled the mirror’s movement. Didn’t do the magpie any favours either.
