The parking lots were slammed even before noon at the Bear Canyon hiking trailhead. Reluctantly, I moved to the far end of the gravel parking lot (first time ever). The space between me and the van over wasn't nearly wide enough: all it would do is tempt someone to squeeze in there and open their door into me. So, I pushed the rocks to the right and moved over most of two feet further away.

The bridge with one of the many family groups hiking today approaching me. The view from the center of the bridge. You can see my car from further up the mountainside (dead center); the parking lot looks over half empty. Still nobody next to me (my car is the teensy silvery blob on the far left). A baby Scottish thistle.

The bridge from the rocks above (there are rock climbing attachments up here). I held up the binoculars in front of my camera lens and zoomed in a bit: there you go, the parking lot is FULL again, and dang it, some white van has parked in the space I provided, but it looks like they centered themselves at least; can't ask for more. My wife is descending the mountainside (my fault; I took us off the beaten path; adventures follow when you do that, of course).

Sure enough, that white van got in close, but the driver did not open their door into me. Yay!
