As you can see from the earlier damage, I've done this (once) before: I was turning into the parking spot and the extra high curb scraped the underside of my right-front and bottom of the splitter. Today, I was pulling slowly straight ahead, watching for my reference point just under the passenger side mirror: with my head held in a position against the headrest just so, as soon as I see the top of the curb appear immediately below the mirror, STOP, turn off, get out. And I've done this in this exact end stall in Walden park countless times: only today, for some Twilight Zone reason, it was nearly a disaster. I just hate stuff like this: no explanation as to why it was different this time: always before I have c. a half a foot between my bumper and the curb: today it was one inch!?

Come on Merlin, in most countries of the world, kids of today have no idea what an inch is. Darn good thing you added the pictures. :geek:

You missed that curb by 2.684782118E-18 light years (is that better cncbilly?)

Don't your front sensors go off to warn you?

Our Canadian models don't have front parking sensors, only rear. (mine anyway)

The US GT1 (at least the 2022) don't have the forward parking sensors or 360 camera.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

They don't work reliably that low; the object being approached needs to be pretty much on a level with the sensors. So, really BIG curbs set them off, like these:

The US 360 degree camera only came out on the GT2 in 2019. The front parking sensors disappeared on the GT1 in 2022.

time for some curb-feelers! :D

Merlin, if you _back in_, you solve two issues.

1) You can drive right out without worrying about missing any cross traffic backing out
2) Rear camera allows you to get as close as you want to the curb.. Even over it as rear has more clearance than front

Win win..

I try hard not to damage the front end and as a result, I usually don't go far enough into the parking spot. So far, at one year old I haven't damaged anything on the body and only a very tiny curb rash on one wheel. Don

They don't face that direction, even if they did, how would that work?

I do back in a lot of the time. That particular spot usually has no one opposite, but this time a truck was parked there, so, no maneuvering room to set up the backup: and again, I was ambushed in a spot that I know almost as familiarly as my own carport.

Definitely donk it.

Even suvs these days have low air dams for efficiency. The old technique of ramming the tire against the curb/stop is going to rip the bumper off if you get it jammed. Old timers at work kept ripping the fascia off our fleet vehicles. When you get a performance vehicle and especially if its a higher performance spec that tends to be lower, you cant drive like those old days, aka “get a truck”. The bmw service tech pulled my car into one when i came to pick up my car from service. I took evidence pics, spoke to the service mgr and did not accept my car back, got them to fix it, but i was pissed.

My usual issue is that I try not to damage the air dam on my cars and end up not being far enough into the parking spot.

Today, I went into the spot too far, bonehead me and heard a very audible scraping noise. Somehow, the bottom of the lip of the airdam managed to slide over the parking lot curb. Very relieved to get out and see no visible damage. The only way that could have happened is if my and my wife's weight lifted the front end some.

Still my 176 and her 145 wouldn't seem enough to lift the front end any.

Got on the garage floor and there was mild scratching most of the way across the bottom of the air dam but nothing of consequence. Phew! Don
