I'm a little over a year into my '18 GT2 AWD - it's better than I expected and more care than I've ever owned. But what's up with the push button "park"? Really, really bad idea - can't understand why the wouldn't have gone with a normal park position on the shifter...

I got used to it, but I also agree. Not sure of the advantage over a traditional mechanical shifter, especially since all the other models have that.

Maybe you already know this, but you don't have to put it in park, just turn the car off and it goes into park. Maybe not the best habit to get into, but it is what I do.

The back seat passengers have to manually unlock their doors if you do this though, or you just hit the unlock button for them.

I have noticed, if you shut off the engine before pressing the P, the car goes into parking mode and beeps and whistles at you if you step out of the car. (Compared to put P in first, then engine off) irritating atleast.

That does sound annoying, my car doesn't do any of that, maybe a Europe vs US thing. Sometimes it is even nice enough to set the parking brake for me. I'm not sure what makes it set the brake some days and not others. Maybe the current phase of the moon?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I'm glad (thanks for reminding me) I have the "T" shifter with old school shifting positions. This car has enough electronic gizmos as it is.

This is unfortunately an industry trend, so I would get used to it because in a few years I would imagine it's going to be difficult to find a car that doesnt have this feature.

The parking brake will automatically be applied if the car is turned off when auto hold is active.. Maybe your using this with phases of the moon? :)

Ah, that makes sense. My use of auto hold is determined by the amount of traffic and my level of frustration with the traffic. I'll test it out on the way home tonight.

I have a feeling it is because of Kabib and Biermann and their influence within Kia. They did the same thing with the BMW models and they are trying to keep a similar style to the Euro cars for various reasons. It's a bit annoying but liveable.

It's simply an effort for manufacturers to "clean up" the console area. Apparently people don't like shifters any more. Ask manual transmissions about this.
