I just had my oil changed at a local independent shop and noticed the oil left in my second 5 Qt jug seems to have over three quarts left in it. I provided a filter and the oil and expected more oil would be needed since the manual says 7.3 quarts are needed to fill, whereas only about 6.5 quarts was actually used. I checked the dip-stick and it is up to the top, and the oil appears very clean. Is this normal? Does the engine hold close to a quart of oil that does not drain out during an oil change?

That is my understanding. Kia is now using synthetic (since the first of the year), so any residual oil will be even cleaner. :)

Mine takes roughly 6.5 quarts to reach full, and I've done 13 oil changes so far. The rest is probably in the oil cooler (radiator).
