OEM Remote Start Installation How-To

Folks, I'm trying to decide between a few 2018 GT2s to purchase and the main deciding factor right now is which ones have the factory remote start. Truly appreciate the instructions and photos for the OEM system...reminds me of my earlier days with the Supra forum. With all of the posts, I'm a little confused about a few things:
1) comparing to the FACTORY installed OEM system, does the DIY version function exactly the same way? Meaning, if you read the instructions in the owner's manual instead of the DIY kit's instructions, will it work the same way? Does it require keeping both the original and the OEM DIY fobs to operate properly?
2) Do the OEM kits like the Compustar 2 noted above in the thread also function the same way? Does it require keeping both the original and the OEM DIY fobs to operate properly?
I'd prefer to keep everything OEM if possible, and of course if I end up getting the car with the factory installed unit, it's all moot. PLS advise
Thanks
Armtek
Unless I'm reading this wrong, I think you might be confused. You have two choices for remote start - the Kia OEM remote starter, or an aftermarket remote starter like Compustar. (You actually have many choices within the realm of aftermarket remote starters, but all that's irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion.) Compustar is not OEM; it's aftermarket.

If you buy the Kia OEM remote starter, it is, to my knowledge, the exact same piece of equipment as you would get if "Remote Start" appeared on the KIA window sticker. My 2021 Stinger did not come with remote start from the factory, so I purchased the Kia OEM remote starter and installed it myself. This is the only thing "DIY" about the Kia OEM remote starter - the installation. But . . . you can pay to have the dealer install it if you like. Then it's not even DIY.

The Kia OEM kit comes with two small button fobs (fobettes), but they are not necessary; I can start my my Stinger with the key fob that came with the car when I bought it. I believe, though I'm not 100% sure, that the additional fobettes have a longer range (i.e. you can start the car from farther away using them). But that's like something I heard from a guy, who heard it from a bum who tried to wash his windshield, who heard it from the magic rabbit he met while drinking a double deuce of Olde English.

I can't speak to the usability of aftermarket remote starters like the Compustar.

Thank you, yes am aware that Compustar was not OEM, I was just curious if the Compustar remote would replace the Kia original fob or do I have to keep both on my keychain :). I now know the difference, and if I stick with OEM I will likely keep the 'remote start' fobs in my drawer at the house to use in case my regular fobs work, but I currently can lock them from the house if I accidentally forgot to do so, so it may be a moot point. Likewise, as I'm still deciding on which car to buy, I may end up with a factory-installed unit, so thank you for the information and we'll see which way it goes...

This thread was an absolute lifesaver. Thanks to all that gave info on their install, as it made my uninstall painless.

I'll be selling the OEM remote start kit if anyone is interested. I'll be making a listing in the for sale section.

Trying to run my wmi line and learning how to install this, so that I can uninstall it to make space. Is there a trick to unplugging these? They will not come out no matter how much I pull on them

I feel your pain. They have releases on the back side you have to press in while pulling out. Mine came out very easily. No force needed.

They are definitely right in the way of that grommet.

Ended up getting the line through without moving these, but the grommet may not be in one piece anymore lol. I felt there was a lot left out of the bms wmi pdf and very few videos/posts with installation assistance

It’s definitely a battle even with nothing extra in the way

Greetings experts. New joiner here.
I've rummaged through Google, YouTube, and this lovely thread here. But as usual, I have a problem which apparently no one else has.

The red, green, blue connectors happen to be behind this metal cover. And this metal cover doesn't have any visible screws or means of removing it peacefully.

Before I go ahead and remove everything around it. Anyone knows a shortcut?

If relevant, the car is a Kia Stinger 2019 GT2 AWD Canadian specs.

Are these 2 images showing the same connectors?

They appear to have a vastly different number of conductors/colours.

**EDIT**
- added titles to images.

I'm properly confused. The photo I took is on the far right you can even see the round thingy and the bit sticking out with a hole just like your photo.

It's a bit hard to see but if you squint and look at the base of the wires, you can see the connector heads in green, blue, red, in that order from back to front.

I thought maybe it was something modified but no one puts a shield like this as part of a modification. Also to confirm, the car is push button start.

Also, the photo you sent is after installing the remote start kit? Maybe that's why all the wires are black.

I edited my post #69 with titles on the images.
