So my car has recently started to abruptly downshift when slowing to a stop usually from 3rd to 2nd and then 2nd to 1st but there are sometimes more "jerks". I have read some older posts on this subject but they were from 2018 and my car is a 2020 so is there anything that can be done about this problem?

What drive mode are you in when it happens and any engine or transmission mods?

All drive modes and no mods that I know of but I am also owner number 2 ad just got it.

How many miles on the car? Any paperwork on maintenance history since you’re the second owner?

A transmission fluid change might not be a bad place to start if maintenance is unknown.

22k. Havent really gone through glove box looking for maintenance records. I do know I am far from the only person who has had this issue and I think its the adaptive transmission but I don't know how to fix it. I will likely take your suggestion on the transmission as the car has a few signs that the previous owner didnt care for it as well as they should have like the fact that the heat resistant padding under the hood is missing all its clips....why?)

Hi. The transmission logic "reflash" was a TSB on earlier model years. I don't see why asking Kia to do that will be a problem: if it works to smooth things out, good. If not, it won't have hurt anything to try.

You think this would still be a problem on the 2020?

It's been a while, but I recall at least one jerky downshifting complaint from an owner on here that was a later model year. I think that whatever it is that the "reflash" addresses was likely fixed after 2018-19; but you know individual vehicles and their quirks.

I hope that fixes it cause it started a few days after

I hope so. It started a few days after I got the car and I will admit that I drove the car very aggressively in the beginning cause new stinger with 370hp but now I am driving much more civilized. Im hoping it just learned how I was driving and thinks it needs to be agressive but the downshifts are super hard.

... the downshifts are super hard.
This is a subjective judgment, of course. What one driver considers "normal operation" another thinks something is wrong. A video showing what you're talking about would be instructive to those of us following your story.

It’s normal on the stinger.

Most “sports” cars have aggressive downshifts.

You want buttery smooth, get a different car.
Ideally it would shift smoothly in drive and I can control it with manual shifting if i desire. It also hasn't always done what it's doing now so I dont think its "normal" per se.

^^^Don't worry, it's only Cowboy in one of his engagement moods. Hah. :P (he invented that phrase, by the way)

Haha no worries. It ain't gonna change anything for me. I will continue my quest to not have my girlfriend gripe at me for braking too hard when the car downshifts in eco mode. I think i've found the solution anyway.

others have said this fixed their issue.
Interested to hear if that works for you.

Id be curious to know if the top of your fuse box under the hood (left back corner when you're facing the front of the car with hood open) has any visible velcro or tape marks on it, if it does that would mean they were at least running a piggyback tune at some point.

Id always be worried someone has heavily modified a car and then when they break something do what they can to hide it before trading it to an unsuspecting dealer.

None of that. The car looks basically brand new apart from the missing clips on the heat shield under the hood and the bubbling window tinting on the real windshield but 0 evidence of any mods I can find. I'm going to have an inspection done on it tomorrow anyway since I have 30 days to return it.
