The investigations, one for Hyundai and the other for Kia, cover non-crash fires in almost 3 million vehicles from the affiliated Korean automakers. The probes cover the 2011 through 2014 Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe, the 2011 through 2014 Kia Optima and Sorento, and the 2010 through 2015 Kia Soul. The complaints came from consumers and from data provided by both automakers.

I wouldn't be surprised if these Theta II 4 cylinder engines, and the one before it, maybe called Theta I if there is one called that, might have replaced the Family II engines assembled at Holden's Engine Operations in Melbourne for 21 years, that Family II engine was in all those early Daewoo vehicles, maybe Hyundai many years back.

The fires have nothing to do with the engine, it is because the techs are lazy as f*ck after replacing the engine from a bearing being spun. They are replacing engines under warranty and there is a HFP on top of the engine with a metal fuel line going from the injectors to the pump. There is a support bracket and it is supposed to be torqued down. They techs are not moving the bracket over and are not torquing down the fuel line and they area breaking or coming lose and spraying gas over the engine. I know because I had to pay $1200 to replace the pump and line and now Hyundai is reimbursing me.

This is 100% the tech's fault. After replacing the engine under warranty they are not transferring over the brace for the fuel line and are not torquing them down correctly. I had to replace mine on my 11 Sonata and now I am waiting to get reimbursed by Hyundai.
