I am pretty excited as I just purchased NGT 400 cell Catted Downpipes for my Kia Stinger. It was hard to pass up since I was given 300$ off and free shipping from KDMracer.com. I already have DC secondary pipes and MBRP catback. This will finish the exhaust. I will be doing the installation myself. I'm going to try and do it with engine in the car, but that may change if a stud breaks. I will keep this thread updated for those of you who are interested.

Here is a link to the downpipes:

Just go steady, I had all nuts come off cleanly on the drivers side but 2 studs screwed out with the nuts on the passenger side.

Absolutely no issue, because they just went straight back in and the gasket stayed attached to the turbo housing as well so I didn't have to muck around with that which was awesome.

As the space is pretty tight for my monkey paws as you are about to find out.

Piss them up with a penatrant at least 24hr's before hand while warm and then again an hour before you connect your 10 x 1/8" extensions together haha.

Peace.

Thank you great advice!

As mentioned, definitely use some PB Blaster or WD40 the day before and day of....and definitely take your time. There will be many cuss words had while doing this job. lol and lots of little knicks here and there. It's doable, just takes some time and patience. Be sure to get some o2 sensor extensions (As pictured above) or you will likely throw a CEL. Good luck...keeps us posted on how it goes!

Oh and I better mention, stay away from the shiny stainless heatsheild behind the manifold it is sharp as a knife and you will bleed !

I used a BIG screwdriver to lever it out of the way to get one of the nuts at the top...

So please wear gloves...

You guys are getting me all excited to start :p

Hearing it from somsone who installed catless primaries of how much of a pain in the ass it was I believe it.

Curious to see your progress and how it changes the exhaust tone/volume. I know if you want loudest you supposed to go catless. I guess at that point it's not a bad idea to install a resonator like a vibrant bottle style one. Wonder if it will get raspier.

I am sure once it's done it will help with performance and sound better! :D

I went with high flow cats to avoid a CEL and hopefully not be to obnoxiously loud.

Started the project today. The downpipes only took 3 days to arrive from NGT. They were quick and efficient. Today my goal was to get some of the minor things out of the way.

I removed the engine braces, turbo heat shields, TCU and O2 sensors. I used penetrating oil on the turbo studs I could access.

Tomorrow I'll remove secondary downpipes and tackle the turbo bolts.

Nice progress...just a heads up...the driver side lower o2 sensor wire disconnect is a complete pain in the ass...especially when you are having to reconnect it. I had to remove the female connection that is attached to a tab to a small frame just to be able to connect it..mind you, this ALL by feel, because you can't see crap. Also, the driver side oem dp, will seem like it won't come out..this is where the patience comes in..you will have to twist and turn and manipulate it...but the new dp will go in easily!!

Curious, any reason for taking out the Ecu?

Thanks for the advice. I forgot about the bottom o2 sensors.

I like to have as much room as possible. The ECU was in the way while trying to get the heat shield off.

He removed the TCU which off course is a must to get to the heat shield... just wait till you try to refit those 3 x 10mm bolts haha!

Ah thanks for correction I called it the ECU by mistake.

All good, ya started swearing yet?

Peace...

I finished it up today. Took the whole day for me to complete and help from a 2nd person. Car is back together and running great!

I'll take pictures tomorrow. That was the most difficult installation I've tackled in a long time.

How it went:
  • The o2 sensor socket i purchased didn't work because the wall was too thick, had to buy a slim walled o2 socket.
  • my 22MM wrench couldn't remove the downstream O2 sensors because it was old and wore out. I had to buy a new 22MM wrench.
  • Disconnecting the downstream O2 sensor plugs was a nightmare.
  • Turbo stud nuts surprisingly come off very easy. No issues with the turbo studs. I think soaking them with penetration oil was the trick.
  • Installing turbo stud nuts on the new downpipes took every bit of patience I had and every socket extension I had.
  • Use of a car lift would of made it allot easier than laying on your back under the car.

Exactly my thoughts brother...

I had a 22mm ring open ended spanner trying to do up the o2 sensor in the extension was a nightmare... and disconnecting the o2 wire with 2 fingers hoo hoo wooo yeh that was a challenge.
I went thru 2 ebay sockets to get the primary o2 removed and then I twisted the bucket/heat sheilds off and refitted them without...

Gotta have some pics of this somewhere?

Much easier for next time!

What do ya think of the turbo spool noise now ?

Some pictures I took post installation. I completely forgot to take some before installing secondary pipes back on.

Finally got a good test drive in with the new downpipes. There is no rasp in the exhaust anymore! The car actually is quieter than with stock downpipes. It has more of a low rumble to it. My setup is now NGT Catted downpipes, DC secondary downpipes, and MBRP catback.

Hmm that's an interesting feedback. Good to hear about not being any rasp.

I guess here in california I wouldn't be able to pass smog with these downpipes, so must stick to stock primaries.

Thanks for sharing some valuable info!
