Newbie Post - Exhaust, DP, Mid and JB4 Questions

Hi everyone,

First off, I've never modded a car so I'm completely infantile with my knowledge. I have a 22 GT2 full stock and want to get some more power and hear a better exhaust sound. Will these 3 products work well together and are they fully DIY? I saw a post from last year of a guy who had KIA install mods and it saved his warranty. Is this recommended by anyone?

I don't want a ridiculous exhaust sound, just... nice and more pronounced. Should I just do the MBRP Exhaust or Exhaust, DP and Mid? The Stinger is my daily driver. I'm not a racer.

Performance wise, I don't believe the exhaust set up on the stinger is proven to do too much (compared to a BMW g8X/b58 downpipe+tune).

I've also heard that it is better to chose between primaries or secondaries, as it is recommended to have a cat on one of them at least. If not, you can run 400cell with the primary downpipe to still have the cat like oem. Somes stingers can burn oil if they are running a full catless set up.

Yes, you can run map2 on the JB4 with 93 octane. It is very important to get spark plugs as well with the jb4 and gap them to the recommended setting, I use the HKS plugs gapped to .022.

Most most importantly though, remember to check your logs when you get the jb4. When I first got mine I ran 93 only as well, and my logs were pretty bad. I was getting gas from the stations you will see recommended here as well, (Shell 93, BP, etc..) and I was still having issues in all cylinders. I mixed in some e85 and my issues were gone, which proved it was the octane/bad gas. So just keep in mind that it can be a bad batch of gas at a good gas station, or bad gas in that specific area. Now I don't know where you live or if theres an abundance of gas stations to chose from, but its still something to remember and keep in mind.

I would also recommend looking at some exhaust tips if you care about drone, they are pretty helpful. Do not fall into the trap on k8 stinger store of the $1000 borla exh tips, there are many threads here that show different ones from ebay or aliexpress, etc (yes aliexpress) and apparently they work really well. I cant speak for myself as I have a stock exhaust system but just something to look out for.

Just ordered the JB4 as we speak and went with the HKS plugs. I think I want to go with the MBRP exhaust as what I've heard on several youtubers videos, it sounds the nicest.

Is there anything beyond the JB4 needed when using E85 mix? Again - I'm learning all this stuff this past month so its Greek to me.
If you do E85 mix, do you have to use all the fuel up before changing back to Map 2?

Nope, just need to know math. The best default is an e30 mix, so 30ish% e85 to the rest 93

Some people run a flex fuel sensor to see their exact mix, but it is not necessary. You don't need to use up all your fuel but it can make things easier for filling up. Before I had the sensor I'd just run my tank pretty low because the general rule would be around 4.5 gallons of E and the rest 93. If not then you just have to do the math on the mix.

Your exhaust mod isn't going to net you any performance gain.

Leave the downpipes stock, trust me.

JB4 will be get you a performance gain by allowing more boost. You don't need it to run 93 octane though. Most important is to make sure you log and are in the correct map.

Welcome to the Stinger Forum and congrats on your new Stinger!
These mods will absolutely work well together and give you some great power & sound!
This is a modification combo we often recommend as it gives a better overall daily driving experience.
As far as DIY/Installation goes, it will really depend on your comfort levels for working on vehicles at home.
The primary downpipe might be slightly more tricky than the other exhaust parts but the Jb4 should be an absolute breeze.

Will the engine output change after exhaust mod?
Yes. For sure.

Is that means the power gain is from less restrictions?
Not really. Most of the time the power gain those brands claims is only from the fact that the change of back pressure makes your turbos spool faster. And yes you can simply assume it’s from minor overboost. Once you have JB4 to control the boost it just doesn’t matter anymore. The amount of boost you can add with JB4 make that boost variation negligible.
