Newbie In the Market for a GT2

I did some basic searching via google and all and understand the basic differences between the trim levels. That said, why wouldn't they make all AWD cars like the GTS? specially the GT2 AWD.

Car I am looking into is 2019 GT2 FYI

I read/saw that yes in fact you can remove a fuse to make your AWD a RWD, however haven't seen if there are any mechanical concerns with such. such as:
  • can you perform launch control perfectly?
  • does the AWD have the same read end diff as the RWD to ensure that it will support all the power going to the rear even though the car was made and programmed as an AWD from factory?

Personally prefer a RWD, however I do go to the snow 2-4 times a year where I would hate to have to put chains on and I am certain the AWD will be best in (per simple reviews as well).

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. What might the Stinger be replacing for you? I’m glad you found us. You happened to post in the “introductions and non-Stinger talk” section - so it may take a little time to get answers regarding your question - but they’ll come.
 
I currently have a Kia Optima (Daily) intend to keep it while adding the Stinger as I am in the market for a little more adrenaline. I am a previous 240sx owner who's built the car to make 350 WHP back in 2010. got out of the car scene with priorities lol, now just looking for another endeavor but nothing too crazy.

Hoping to get the daily aspect reliability, some style, would love to be able to get sideways or fun (on rare occasions) and when desired be able to run high 12's. While then later being able to take the car to the snow .

I have a 2019 GT AWD. We don't get the rear LSD like the RWD's do. The owners manual states that the computer can send up to 50% of the power to the front wheels when needed. In sport mode, the manual states that only up to 20% of power will be sent to the front wheels. In every day normal driving, we are basically driving a RWD car. The computer transfers the power to the non slipping wheels as needed. This comes in handy when using launch control. KIA does say that the center diff is a LSD.

Making sure I followed this:

  1. Normal Mode (non-sport) the car drives like a RWD, however when it feels it's slipping is when it transfers power to the FW's.
    • I assume, a burnout in example can't occur?
  2. In Sports Mod, it pushes then acting more like a RWD and only utilizes 20% on the front wheels for traction purposes mainly.
  3. when you say Center Diff. Are you referring to the front wheels?

1. Correct. If your wheels start slipping, the computer sends more power to the ones that have more traction and cuts power to the slipping one. A burnout is hard to achieve since the computer controls the power to the wheels.

3. Thinking about it, the center diff should be called a transfer case. It basically transfers power from the engine to rear and/or front wheels. The front and rear wheels have there own diff so that your tires can turn at different speeds when cornering. The computer controls the transfer case (center diff if you like) and sends power where it is needed.
I would guess if you searched the internet, you could get a more detailed explanation on how AWD works.

Appreciate the response and yeah I have a fair understanding of how AWD works.

The main reason for my post is in hopes I can hear that on the AWD one can alter it to do the same the GTS does. As that one is an AWD, yet can be switched to RWD only.
 
You can get AWD with a LSD in the Stinger's sister car, the G70. So you may want to look at that if you want an AWD drift car.

However I don't know how long the G70 has offered the AWD with LSD. I know they do with the current model year on one of the trim levels.
