New (to me) 2018 GT2 (11k miles)- tons of audio issues. Anyone else?

After three weeks, man, I love this car. But I'm starting to kind of hating driving it. I only have a couple complaints, a very minor one is the rattles - yeah, the sunroof/hatch rattles, door panels squeak a little. But whatever, it's minor and seems mostly fixable, I've just got to get around to it.

However, the audio system has been atrocious. When it's working well, love the sound; the HK system was a big reason I went with this car. Problem is, it never works well. Problems I have:

1) Sound is always resetting to the back speakers. I thought I was going crazy for a while, and finally noticed a pattern where it sets sound placement to about 2/3 of the way to the back. I recenter it, but some time later, it moves back.

2) I have constant cracks/pops/snaps when playing any audio. Every few seconds there's a loud noise, and it doesn't matter if it's on XM, FM, Bluetooth, etc.

3) Every 2-5 seconds (but not synced with the pops mentioned above), the sound abruptly cuts out for 1/10th of a second, then quickly fades back in. Sometimes I go for 30 seconds without it, but sometimes it happens one right after the other. It absolutely ruins any podcast or song I'm trying to listen to. Again, happens on all modes, FM, Bluetooth, etc.

I'm wondering if any of y'all have experienced these issues, and if so, what fixed them. I will take it to the dealer if needed - it should all be covered under warranty. But if there's something I can do to fix it, obviously that's much preferred. I've messed with all the settings and reset the head unit.

I would start with a factory reset of the audio system... and if that doesn't sort out the sound system problems... see your dealer
(factory reset is in the setup - IDR exactly where but I did it once)

I've had the same crackles from my audio system since i got the car. I've pretty much tuned it out at this point, but every now and then I cant, and i get very annoyed. I may try to have the dealership do something about it when I go in for inspection next month. I just have a feeling they wont be able to hear it. But that, luckily, is the only audio system issue my car shares with yours.

be sure to post back if you figure that one out. I'd love to not hear that every day. With all of those issues, I'd consult the dealer if RedCal's suggestion doesn't work. something isn't right.

Edit: Welcome to the forum BTW! Lots of great info and inspiration on here

Definitely isn't normal, take it to the dealership. My HK system has operated perfectly so far without a single hiccup.

Quick question - are you using the "fake" surround, or Clarify? settings - if so try turning them off - could be a software bug, or DSP running out of processing power

I've played around with them, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. I'm not sure if I'm making this up or not, but it seems like the issues are less frequent when the car is cold. I'll sit in my car after getting off the train and let it warm up for 10 minutes or so before driving, and I do believe the issues are less pronounced then.

I'm going to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes tonight and see if that helps; thanks for the suggestions, all. Will update here with any results.

The fade to rear is a known issue with the 2018 HK equipped Stingers. Dealer has to replace your head unit. It may also fix the cracks and pops you’re experiencing.

Try to be diligent in when it happens and take notes - It goes a long way to aid in troubleshooting, because if it does only happen when everything is cold, I would suspect a loose harness, or cold solder in the amp/processor (ie heats up, expands, & breaks the connection)

If this is the case, I would definitely ask your dealer about any TSBs on the issue and get it replaced.

fingers crossed Only issue that I've had so far is that if I turn off the car while playing music via Apple CarPlay, leave the phone connected, and then restart the car - the music comes back, but has noticeable static. Unplugging and reconnecting fixes it though.

Well, left the battery disconnected for about 30 minutes, but the issue persists. Guess it's a dealer problem now. :(

There is a thread or two that talks about the fade to rear and head unit replacement. It was a popular topic last year. There might be a TSB for it in those threads. Having as much info as possible before going to the dealer is always helpful.
