New stingers coming

a pair of turbocharged engines
Mine only has ONE! That's some upgrade. Hah.
Kia's last update for the Stinger was the introduction of the Stinger GTS for 2020. The more track-focused model featured both software and hardware upgrades to help it slice through corners better.
 Not a very informed review; 2019 was the year of the GTS. And if drifting through the corners is "slicing better", I've been studying this wrong. :D

not very informed I know . And all these other sites claiming 3.5t and 2.5t apparently have it figured out. Personally I’ll overlook the minor slip on “2019 gts” and nice catch.

They have gone in reverse with the styling. The tail lights do nothing for me and running lights look goofy. The running lights on the original to me is a jaw-dropping design. The new exhaust system on the other hand I am betting probably sounds throatier.
Those rendered taillights are god awful. There is no reason to get rid of the distinct shape we have now just to look like a Charger.

Also, I wouldn't hold your breath about those new engines coming to the Stinger.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I am not believing the bigger exhaust tips either; I think that this reviewer got suckered by photo shop joking around.:D

Autoblog article "appears to throw cold water on rumors that the Stinger would get the 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 from the new Genesis G80 sedan..."

But also mentions that "CarSales reports that engine will be juiced for more power by tweaking its bimodal exhaust. Unspecified design and equipment changes are also reportedly due", which is nice.

Some slight tweaks to existing components is much more believable than Kia totally throwing out the current engine options for two entirely new powertrain design. Especially considering the low sales numbers of the car. Tough to hear, but still a fact; these cars don't sell very well. It just keeps the club more "exclusive".

Just for argument's sake, here is a table of all US midsize car sales for 2019:

Shout out to the one person who bought a new Dodge Avenger last year. Really keeping the dream alive.

^ If going to combine3/4 Series, A4/A5, Q50/Q60, IS/RC, etc. sales - then mind as well combine G70/Stinger sales.

The reports coming out of AUS very likely are specific to their (and maybe other RHD) market.

C/D reported some time ago that the 2.5T was headed for the G70 and Hyundai has given some info. to the EPA to that regard.

Nothing about the 3.5TT replacing the 3.3TT, so maybe H/K are keeping the 3.3TT (w/ a boost in power) for the time being (altho, w/ the ever increasing stricter emissions regs over in Europe, one would think H/K would make the change sooner rather than later).

H/K developing a bi-modal exhaust may be an inking that Kia intends to keep the Stinger around for a bit longer (but the pandemic can change all that).

Such a system is most suited for the G70, Stinger, GV70 and maybe the G80 Sport.

A next gen Stinger (and G70) underpinned by the new architecture would also allow for an electric Stinger, so, in that sense, would be a bit future-proof.

I believe both the 2.5T and 3.5T will be in the 2021 Stinger. While us enthusiast are looking for a more powerful vehicle, other buyers are still looking at economy. The new engines will have the Smart Stream system with both port and direct injection, which should offer more power and economy. While the power difference won’t be massive, the idea is to have better performing and longer lasting engines. Plus they really want to get rid of that 2.0T, instead of having more out there that could fail and cost them in repairs. Having power and economy to remain competitive works for them in the long run. We know their engines haven’t been competitive as far as economy is concerned.

What I’m curious about is if they would also replace some metal with aluminum to shave off some more weight, like on the G80. What would be interesting is if they reworked the 3.3T to push 500 hp/tq and did a N variant for the G80, to get more years out of that engine. Of course we would want to see a Stinger version as well, a Stinger GT-R or whatever they decide to call it. Properly tuned for track use when you want it and as great as a sporty street car without punishing you on a daily drive. Sort of like the v10 M5 used to be, a tame daily driver until you activate the M mode. Problem is, that setup could easily add $15K to the price, to do it right and trounce the Germans. In my mind that would be a Genesis vehicle more than a KIA, but what if? Hmm...
