New Stinger Recall

Sorry no picts. I looked in the engine bay and it looked ok. I asked what they did and got the correct description. The service guy was frustrated b/c Kia sent out the notice before they had a solution.

as far as i can see all the HECU uunits are quoted as 2017 production date but i highly doubt it. could have ban a bad batch or source of material

bingo. they are eliminating fire hazard and waiting for the red flags to show what hecu units are in need of replacement

do not talk to service. go straight to the patts department and quest the part # 91KITJ525LQQK

also looks like theyll sell them here (i order there alot)
Ordered the kit from Kia Parts Now. They do write back making you acknowledge:

"The part on your order is a Kia controlled part. This means once approved, the order cannot be canceled and the part cannot be returned, however, the part is still covered by Kia's warranty policy.

*By replying "I accept", you are agreeing to accept a non-returnable part on your order."

Once you acknowledge that, they will write back shortly after requesting your VIN # since, as mentioned earlier, it is required by Kia.

So we shall see if/when they actually ship the part. What sucks is that the shipping costs over twice as much as the kit, but still less than $20 out the door.

I already stated kits were Vin attached. You can't order it without a car for it. The wording says you can't return a special order part that no one else is going to by so it's yours now.
Ok so sounds like it’s VIN attached. That wording screams “ok this is your part now, your responsibility, if it burns down we’re not liable... k thanks”

Yup I remember you stating it’s VIN attached, I had meant to say “ok so it sure is VIN attached” or something. I’ve ordered special parts before, no return I get it, but this is a special recall part. Curious if you order it then never install it what that means for Kias responsibility should a fire occur. Just pondering that “what if” scenario

There's a step missing. The kit is attached but the service campaign for your car is not closed out. That's why I mentioned after install, you'll need to go to the dealer to get them to close it on as completed on your car. I called Kia and told them I'm having a private garage closer to home do it. Then I'll talk to the service manager and get it cleared as completed. Only issue being they may ask for receipt. You'll have to cover that part on your own. I can show my dealer and get it squared. (I recommend talking to the service manager not an advisor as they'll bull shit you all day).

I have my repair scheduled for Tuesday. Seems weird that the parts are available for order, but I've not heard from anyone about actually getting it done. You would think they would send a letter saying to call and schedule the fix.

Agreed! I got my letter that a recall is in action with no fix yet, but that’s it. Had it not been for this forum, would I be waiting for weeks or months longer?

totally true, plenty of good techs. we just all happen to love our cars more than average folks. Mine has only been to my local mechanic in my year of ownership, and when they are working on anything, I stand back in the shop and chit chat and stuff. I kind of get to keep an eye on stuff. I usually tip the guys that work on it $20, just cause I'm a pain in their butt. Our family has 4 cars total so I'm in their all the time for something or another. Nothing beats a good relationship with a mechanic. Hoping for the best at the dealer....yikes!!!!!

I have my recall repair appointment at the dealer this Friday. I am relieved to hear the “fix” is somewhat simple an non evasive. I had fears of sliced up wiring everywhere.

Suffice it to say, I will stress to them that I want to ensure the job is done with the utmost care.

Thanks for the excellent explanation and information
I am confused. If I call my local Kia dealer will they set an appointment to fix it or is do they not have guidance yet?

Cal then and tel them about the recall, advise them that you’re aware Kia has a solution in place and ask if the parts are in yet. Some dealers are starting the get the parts.

it seems some are aware of the recall and the parts availability, and some are a bit behind and say they don’t have a fix yet. YMMV.

Why is everyone freaking out that the dealer is going to do the job.... not all the techs are bad.
They haven’t proved themselves to me. Yet to walk out with the warm and fuzzies after a visit. More like going home to clean the oil a smudge marks off my car. Thats why for me.

According to them, I have to wait until January 4th for them even to inspect the car (before they order the parts).....

LOL inspect it for what? An engine fire?

It's a matter of trust for me. I don't trust that they can change the oil without f*cking up so to allow them to cut and splice wires in the fuse box is a tough one for me.

Call me a Karen, but I’d check for that and walk back in and ask for the manager. Oil marks on the engine cover, seats, car etc screams “I don’t have a shit I’m just here to put oil in”. We’ve got to hold them to a higher standard.

Many times in my life I’ve had to get agitated and drive a point home and it does absolutely nothing but raise my blood pressure. Sometimes people say “you’re right we’ll take care of that so sorry” and they fix it once and never change. But just maybe, they understand, raise their bar higher and stop making those mistake altogether. I always shoot for the latter.

I had a Sorrento that I brought in for recall. Decided to take them up on the one time free oil change during same trip.
I guess they must figure it’s good to sprinkle oil on top of motor too...
I kind of chuckled and shook my head as I cleaned that up but when I noticed the scratches all over the entire car from their dirty car wash that I never asked for that was game changer for me. When I got my GT I told myself they are no way touching this one. I hate recalls!!
