New stinger owner

Purchased a White 2022 GT2 with 11000 miles about 3 weeks ago. Love it. Was and am still driving a Red 2012 Optima SX with 210000 miles on.
Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your new Stinger! I’m glad you found us. :) How are you liking it compared to the Optima?

The stinger is a big upgrade on safety features/tech and power. For me optima is a very easy car to drive long distance due to comfort. If the stinger was not a comfortable I would have passed on it but it is as comfortable or more. Only knock on the stinger so far is fuel economy but that is one of the reasons I kept the optima. There prob aren’t many people who buy a stinger to save gas. We buy it to consume gas when we step on it.

Yes, there's a cost for that power and fun to drive factor - but it's worth it. :)

Hey @Jr321,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your Stinger!

That kind of mileage on the Optima is impressive, these two are a good pair.

Let me know if you need anything for either car, I work with both the K8 Stinger Store and the K5 Optima Store!

Just wanted to update and get some thoughts. I know it’s not a stinger related issue but just blew my optima engine. Verified no crank. 21300 miles well maintained (obviously as it hasn’t died yet). All maintained by me. Curious on the thoughts on this. Go for the replacement or take a care of it myself. I did do the orange dipstick/recall. Should be unlimited warranted. Just dropped dead on a road trip. No rpm and then no start.

Thoughts? I thought when I read your OP intro that your Optima had 210,000 miles. Now your saying it "blew" at 21,300? Which is it? 200K plus isn't even extreme, a lot of KIAs go farther than that. But a blown engine at 21K and change? That is super rare, and of course completely under warranty for miles, but not for years, so, your out of luck there.

Sorry, missed a zero on that. 213000. It’s possible that they will cover it under the theta recall lifetime unlimited mile warrantee. My main concern was the towing cost to the dealer but I think I have that figured out with a tow dolly. Based on your 200k not being extreme and the fact im not going to have to shell out a few hundred to tow I’ll likely try and have it replaced under the recall. Thanks for the response.

theta recall lifetime unlimited mile warrantee.
I didn't hear of this before. Is that a thing on all KIA theta engines? so, does the Stinger have it too, if the engine fails because of a recall issue?
