New Shoes for Lucille

I hate you right now

Shes lower! Here's a quick cell phone pic I got as the technician drove it onto the alignment rack. I'll get more later.

Those are the thinnest "rubber band" tires I have ever seen. Go carefully!

The thinnest you've EVER seen? Ever?!?! I don't believe you.

My tires are taller than the stock Michelins. The wheels are larger in diameter. My new sidewalls are the same size (appx 3.45") as the stock tire.

I guess your tires are the thinnest rubber band tires you've ever seen. :D

But I do drive with more fear now. That's for sure.

Yes, I do believe yours look thinner than what I have noticed before ("seen" is limited to what I have noticed: if you are saying that there are thinner tires I have to go with what you say and not what I may have seen but not noticed).

Yours look like a lot thinner side walls than my Michelins. In the picture anyway. How could they be the same? 20" wheel, same diameter as 19s with Michelins in the stock OEM setup. Is that right?

My tires overall diameter are larger than the stock tires.

Take the front for example.

The stock tires are 26.03" tall with a 19" wheel inside. My new front tires are 26.79" tall with a 20" tire inside. So even though the wheels got bigger the sidewall remained the same size because the OVERALL diameter was increased.

That make sense?

Yes. And what I said does too: your setup looks thinner because of the overall proportion. Your od is slightly bigger; your inner wheel is an inch bigger; tire makes up 7.43" of my od; tire makes up 6.79" of your od. To my eye your tire looks thinner, and it is. I noticed it, because until I bought this car I've held a prejudice against "rubber band tires", because although they look cool, they are just a collapsed wheel waiting to happen. I still hold that prejudice. But now I have to live with it!

Last week I was coming down Millcreek canyon (which I have done many times in my erstwhile van), and as I crossed a bridge my RF wheel slammed into what appeared to be only a raised piece of asphalt, but was in fact a ridge!? WTH!? It was the hardest hit my Stinger has received to a wheel. I was worried that I had bent the rim. In fact nothing (at least on the outer rim) was visibly damaged and the alignment and smoothness haven't suffered at all.

But I was reminded of just how unavoidably our sporty looking rims can take a fatal hit. Even when we see what is coming we don't always discern the danger until after the fact. The larger diameter wheels have to be more vulnerable when the tire mass makes up a smaller proportion of the whole.

This guy pulled up to the shop while I was waiting for my alignment...

@MerlintheMad my tires have .15" less sidewall than stock. A negligible difference. Good eye, nonetheless.

wow that back end looks real nice lowered. How much were the springs, installation, and alignment?

The springs were around $240 shipped from an eBay vendor. The installation and alignment was $375.

LOL! Now I have seen pictures of thinner rubber band tires. Thanks for that. I've yet to see anything so ridiculous in real life.

That is some seriously well thought out measuring. Some people just say, "Yowza!" I'm gettin' some for my ride." Like spitting in the wind.

Looks good!!! Perfect once you get it lowered... which means more pics!! I was thinking the same offset w/ another set of Vertini
I think it looks perfect. It doesn't even need lowering in my opinion!

Come to Atlanta, and I'll direct you to parts of town where you could drive around all day spotting things like that...

Nice shot showing the actual color of the spokes here as well.

Looks incredible. Nice that the sidewall is the same - let us know how the ride is compared to the 19's. I suspect no different, because of all the electronic trickery going on. My daughter couldn't believe how much smoother the ride was in the Stinger in Sport, compared to my Sorento we drove down and back in!

Looks amazing! You’re my Vertini brother. Haha. I love the Vertini wheels. Great quality and price. You nailed the look of the car. Absolutely perfect. I plan to lower mine as well.
