CA7247F0-0DB0-4349-A68A-C25810398843.webp Hi all,

I just picked up a 2018 GT in micro blue on July 4 and am loving it. Can’t believe how hard it pulls and how well it corners. First car I’ve been excited to drive since 2002. Already thinking about upgrading to the GT2 when I can afford it, though, as I love ventilated seats.

As far as I can tell, it was the cheapest and highest mileage GT in the US at the time (checked Autotrader and Craigslist). Paid 27,991 and it had 39k miles. Opted for the CPO Platinum upgrade to cover it bumper-to-bumper for 100k / 10 years because of this. So far, so good.

Don’t have a great shot of the car yet, but here it is parked at the mall the other day.

Welcome and congratulations!

It certainly is a great machine.

40k miles?!? Wow that's a lot of driving.

That high of miles must have been mostly highway. How else could you rack up 39K in a year? I mean sure, you could, but how likely is it that just cruising the main drag was how this car got that many miles?

Miles don't equal age and wear and tear on the body and paint, etc. That all depends on the kind of roads. A car can go 100K miles and not receive a scratch, in theory. I think you did well. Welcome!

I'm looking at a GT2 RWD currently that's over 37k, and a GT2 AWD that's over 30k. Current OTD offer is ~$37,500 and $40,000 respectively, but I'm working at playing them off each other as I don't want to spend that much on either of them. The RWD comes with a lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealership. I haven't gotten to see either car in person yet so I can't vouch for wear and tear, but would y'all be concerned about those mileage totals? There's so little of the factory warranty that will be left after it's cut down in the transfer.

I think you can do better than that! Those prices are really near what others are paying for "new" MY18 or with really low miles. What are those sales persons thinking? If you buy an extended warranty (I think I would) wouldn't that solve the "end of the warranty" question?

I think so too as far as doing better, but so far they've both been unwilling to budge any further. I'm fine with walking and being patient. Things will only get cheaper as the '20 models get closer, and I can pay more into my trade-in.

I generally avoid all extended warranty options because they seem predatory/scammy, but it is something I should keep in mind if I go on with either of these. The lifetime powertrain from the dealership on the RWD car is good in theory, but I live 200ish miles from that dealership, so not sure how good it'd be in practice.

I wanted to do the lease/buyout option originally, but Texas taxes make that a no-go, and of all the dealerships I've contacted about balloon loans, one said they don't do those and the rest all said the incentives are significantly less for balloons vs. leases. Not to mention used car loans from third parties I've found are in the 4-5% range at best with excellent credit, so overall it's no good. I looked at financing new again because of the 72mo/0.9%, but the dealerships all said they wouldn't stack rebates on top of that.

How's the paint holding up with the miles on it?

There are some chips in a couple spots, but it’s clear they’re from damage because those chips come with tiny dents too. Otherwise it seems to be holding up.

I need to read up on WHERE the paint is too thin, as typically there are specific spots that factories fail to properly coat the body panels. Do you happen to know where?
