New Navigation/Infotainment Update?

I did the update. Took about 25 mins to load in the car. Pretty seamless. Important note: all radio presets and Navi address book will get wiped and you will need to re-do.

I don't know about Radio but SXM was fine.

I just did it last night. Took about 45 min total. I like how it looks and like that they added auto brightness to the nav screen as well to follow the light sensor.

I see that you have the Stinger GT as well - is yours a non-navigation one like mine (mine is Stinger GT non-navigation). I tried to update my infotainment using the Kia update website with a USB stick but every time I tried it my car gave me an error telling me to insert a USB drive with the proper update files (or something of that sort). Can you tell me how you went about updating your infotainment to the new GUI?

That's the thing - my car doesn't have a SD card reader bc it's not the navigation equipped model. it seems like @vipeboy2000 was able to do it to his GT (which as far as I know only comes in non-navigation configuration) so I was wondering how he did it

ah.. sorry, i have the indigo package on my gt which has the 8 inch with navigation/sd card. It would seem like the usb method SHOULD work for them as kia updates non nav uvo systems with usb on other vehicles...

I thought the same thing, but decided on the SD card route and it worked as advertised.

yea... i've dug around on kia and hyundai's site and it doesn't look like they have any documentation on updates on non navigation equipped vehicles which is a bummer Even the vehicles that use usb, it's for those that have built in nav but no sd.. i'm sure it's possible they probably just don't spend much time getting updates for them because they don't "have" to since there are not maps that need updating.. maybe if enough non map owners call kia concierge, they'll make some updates .. doubtful but one can hope. ha

I read on a Hyundai forum that non-nav owners of the Sonata and other current cars were able to update their infotainment software via Engineering mode using a USB stick. Essentially you're forcing the update through this method. Someone can try with their Stinger.

I'm having the same issue. Someone on the other Infotainment Update thread mentioned that it might be a USB drive vs port problem if my drive is USB 3.0 (and mine is) and the port in the car is USB 2.0.

Did you put the files at the root of the USB stick? I had this problem (22 GT2) until I moved the files to the root of the USB stick. Also, if you stick is really big, make sure it is formatted as FAT or FAT32 (not NTFS). Another check... throw an MP3 on the stick, and see if the media function can play it, if so, at least you know your car can read the stick.

Sorry, IT guy here.... The application puts the files inside a directory (I can't recall the names). When I simply copied the directories to the thumb drive, the nav system didn't see it. However, when I dug into the directories on the computer, there was one directory that had all the update files. I just copied the contents of that directory to the root (or lowest level, or E:\ or whatever the thumb drive name is) and then it worked as soon as I plugged it in.

So, I downloaded the update to an SD card. When I go to the slot, there's already and SD card there (supplied by KIA).


When I took the KIA card out, the navigation was gone, giving me this message

I then went through the steps. I get to the update part in settings and inserted the new card. But, it gives me this message


I guess it's not reading the new SD card properly. It's FAT32 formatted, so it's not that. Any ideas? Do I go the USB stick route that was mentioned in this thread?

Make sure the update files only are on the SD card root directory and not the main Stinger directory. For example, when you look at the card you should see multiple folders and files, not one Stinger directory. Insert the new card with the car off and then turn it on.

Double check all the files inside the folders copied over fully, you should have about 22.45 GB on the card. If you do, try formatting it again, single partition, and copy the files onto it. If that fails, try using the kia card but don't format it, just delete the files (or copy them off as backup) and copy the new files onto it.

I moved the subfiles out of the main Stinger file folder into the root directory, similar to the layout of the Stinger-labeled SD card. I'll give it a try in the morning (inserting the card, then turn the car on), but thanks for the tip!

It's been moved and is only visible on the phone screen.
