Hi folks, new Stinger driver from Frankfurt/ Main area in Germany here. Since Kia Motors Germany have their headquarters in Frankfurt, I met some Stingers back in fall 2017, probably during a Kia event. A good dozen of them driving by was quiet a nice view. Since then, I've been researching and checking the Stinger, soaking in whatever I could find. Last Friday, finally, I got the keys to my very own Stinger, 3.3 V6T AWD, in Panthera Metal. First thing I did was ordering the rebadging package for front, rear and wheels. Can't wait to get them and modify my Stinger slightly. No other plans for other modifications yet. I thought about the sport exhaust, but my boss at home... ;)

Well, what else... feel free to ask.

Any other users from Germany?

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Congratulations on your brand new Stinger GT! What did the Stinger replace for you?

thank you guys for the warm welcome.

actually, I wanted the ceramic silver first, before seeing the Panthera Metal. Plus, the car dealer had one standing there, while I would have had to wait 4 months for the ceramic silver one. I did not regret the color choice so far :)

I had a Mazda 6 from 2015, with the large diesel engine. Great car and very useful while our kid was a baby, but I needed something sporty now. Our second car is another Mazda, so the useful part is still covered. Before that, I was driving several Seat Ibizas and Seat Leons - fun hatchbacks, but I grew out of this type of car I'd say.

The Stinger is an awesome car, I liked it at first sight and am loving it since the first test drive. I am not a racer, but knowing that I could, if I wanted to... I don't know about other parts of the world, but many drivers in Germany feel kind of challenged as soon as they see a car like the Stinger and begin to be pushy, tailgating and such. I don't race on public roads, too many clueless and unaware people out there, I don't want to risk my or their health for an adrenaline kick.

The Mazda 6 is a nice car - and the Stinger is a nice upgrade. Yeah, don't let anybody bother you on the road. If you can avoid street racing, avoid it. There are too many people driving while sending text messages, reading email, or on Facebook...

Congrats commercialist on your new ride!

Have a ? for you (if you don't mind).

One thing I have noted is that the Stinger does particularly well in Germany (and other countries which speak German or a similar language such as Switzerland) in comparison to its Asian competition from Lexus and Infiniti.

How would you say that the Stinger is viewed by the auto-enthusiast and the general populace in comparison to the IS and Q50?

And how onerous are the CO2 and/or displacement taxes in Germany (in EU countries w/ really high taxes, the TTV6 gets really expensive) and do you think a hybrid variant (something Kia is purportedly working on) of the Stinger will help increase sales (as diesels are falling out of favor across the EU).

G’day & welcome to the forum, congrats on your new Stinger, you will love it.

Hallo ,
mich gibt es hier auch.
Fahre einen gelben 2.0 in der Nähe von Berlin.

That is one beautiful color! KIA built a beautiful GT car with great performance cred which I suspect is why folks want to challenge it. You be safe and enjoy your ride!

thanks @ll for the welcome :)
After one full week of driving my Stinger, I'm still loving this car. It was a great decision and a fantastic upgrade.

Is it just me or is it getting even worse over time?

Hi YEH, thanks for the welcome. Well, "particularly well" in Germany is a bit exaggerated, probably, according to some statistic numbers: starting in August, in 2017 a total of 449 Kia Stinger (no further details on the model/ engine) have been registered in Germany.
Most of them Kia owned cars for presentations, presumably.
In 2018, data as of end of June, an additional 540 have been registered. Thats roughly 1,000 brand new Kia Stingers compared to a total of 2,937,332 (1,098,301 in 2017 and 1,839,031 in 2018 during the same time period) brand new cars registered. Crazy numbers, eh? Btw, there was a total of 64,068 brand new Kia cars registered in 2017 overall.

Because it is rare, the Kia Stinger is a head-turner, most people can't believe it's a Kia, since it easily resembles other more luxury cars and, for the V6, performs not necessarily worse in everyday situations. Kia themselves have made quite some progress here in Germany, but more in the small to medium sized cars section, and with the famous SUVs (yes, Germans love their SUV, because... of reasons! 521,660 SUVs registered, out of 3,441,262 in total 2017). You see a lot of Picantos, Ceeds and Sportages here.
Lexus and Infinity are indeed much scarcer on german roads, both manufacturers are among "others" in the publicly available statistics.

Tax is based on CO2 emission and engine size. The emission is quite good for the Stinger, Kia is aiming at reaching "Euro-6d-TEMP", the currently highest and hardest to get certification, starting in fall (this emission class is mandatory in Germany for newly registered cars starting in September 2019). Since the V6 is quite large, tax is a bit higher (and for me slightly more expensive than my Mazda 6 diesel I had before). We're talking about roughly 420 USD per year.

Hybrid cars... I would say it's difficult, here in Germany, but they are on the rise. Nevertheless, as of now it's just a fraction in comparison to the overall cars existing. Out of 46.5 Million cars registered in Germany in total, as of January 1st, 2018, only 236,710 were hybrid cars. I would see this more like a prestige thing - even though it will take some time to raise the amount of hybrid cars to a serious level, every manufacturer who wants to establish themselves in Germany needs to provide hybrid versions of their cars. From my personal view and referring to the Stinger, a hybrid version would need to be more on the sporty side for this car. Adding a hybrid version to make a Stinger a "green car" at the cost of its sportive character would probably not be successful. But times are changing, who knows what the market looks like in a year or two.

I'll leave you with the numbers. Sorry for the long post, but after starting to research a little but I couldn't really stop ;)

Greetings from Lower Saxony / Hannover ;)
I just keep writing in English anyway, I think it’s rude otherwise
I try to call my dealer Monday to get more information about 2019 model - I want an 2.0 deep Chroma Blue Model, the taxes are high for 3.3 and just to drive to work and home that cost is too high for me.

It was planned to order it later to get the new car next spring, but my winter tires need to be renewed. Also new Problem is the key - getting it out after a drive is really not that easy - need to be fixed :(
If my dealer has any Info for the 2019 model I will order it now.

I thought I can wait ..but I can’t ..

Really welcome and congratulations for your beast:P

Congrats and welcome.

talking about rarity... after not seeing another Stinger for a couple of weeks, one was parking next to mine yesterday while I was shopping ...
given the license plate I assume it was a car from Kia Motors Germany (who are using distinctive IDs on their plates)

for a split second I thought that waiting for a ceramic silver one would have been worth the time... but I love my Panthera Metal

Two things, love the camera work in the earlier post, what camera and lens did you use for that? Secondly, seeing the Cerqmic Silver and the Panthera Metal together, I think I would go with the CS. Both are nice and rear colors but there is something about the CS on this car. Might be due to the Nardo Grey they have on the Audi car.

I total agree on the color, I would have had to wait for a Stinger in ceramic silver though, the panthera metal one was available immediately. But I agree, I also liked the similar gray on those Audis which is why I initially was looking for a ceramic silver Stinger :)

Regarding the photos, they were taken with a Samsung Galaxy S8 in auto mode, I added a focus effect later with Google's Snapseed.

Ok, look like a camera setting for toy or special lens. Thanks.

In the right light, there isn't a Stinger color I don't like. They just need to be clean and shiny.
