New JB4 Install - Log Assistance Needed

Just installed the JB4 with BMS intakes and HKS plugs. Filled up with 91 at my usual Shell, also added Boostane to bring me up to 100. In theory I should be ok to run Map 3 or higher but my ign_2-6 numbers seem awfully high for a Map 2 pull on 100 octane.

The pulls towards the end of the log are likely better ones to look at.

If there’s something suspect in here, let me know.

Did an ECU reset this morning and did a few more pulls. First two pulls in the log are Map 1, they seem fine, but again the two Map 2 pulls look rough on ignition timing. Same tank of fuel. Is it possible that even with the Boostane I just really need to find a new fuel station?

I’ll leave it in Map 1 for now until I get some feedback.

Also is there a way to easily split out runs on different maps in the JB4 Mobile app? Sorry for the slightly messy logs.

Do you have access to E85? Octane boosters are crap.

Unfortunately not. Canada is a bit of a wasteland for E85. That’s why I thought Boostane would be a decent alternative.

Ended up needing to do a bit of long distance driving today so took the opportunity to burn off what was in the tank. Filled up with just straight 91 at a different station from near empty...even Map 1 has problems. Timings up at 4.5-5.0.

Could this be caused by improperly gapped plugs? It was my first time ever gapping iridium plugs before and while I think I did them right, I'm not 100% positive.

No CEL or codes on the car when I check through the JB4 app. I'm at a bit of a loss.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
You'd want to disconnect battery for 5 min if changing octane like that to reset adaptions.

Thanks Terry. I'll do an ECU reset again.

Anything else worth considering or just do the reset and do some more logs?

Probably your plugs are already fouled from the octane booster. What is the gap anyway?

Gapped to 0.024 but they might be a bit inconsistent just due to inexperience on my part.

Your gasoline in the tank is garbage and that what we can confirm for now. Ditch the boostane and try log every highest octane gasoline that offered by every single brand (PC94, Shell93, Chev94, Esso94 etc.) Don’t trust “experts” online claim certain brand is better. No one can know how good/bad each brand of gasoline is in another province/state without actually see the log. Generally speaking Canadian 91 is junk. Literally every single common boosted performance car will pull timing on those 91.

Relying on boostane for daily driving is one of the worst ideas. If you’re good at mixing stuff you should buy toluene and xylene in bulk. They’re the only octane boost you actually want.

You’d better go water methanol injection and use pure meth if you want extra performance. After WMI, with a good 93/94 it should allow you to run map 4 or 7 with stock ECU and 19 peak psi with 19-20deg timing with backend flash, with a clean log.

Burned through the bad fuel highway driving. Maybe that caused the plugs to go bad…not sure. I’m in Saskatchewan so all we can get here is 91. Alberta can get 93/94 but Husky was the last one to offer higher octane here and they stopped a couple years ago.

I’ve currently got Co-Op 91 in the tank. I ran the Shell 91/Boostane mix down to around 5L, then filled with this stuff.

If it seems reasonable, I was going to just get a new set of Denso 5346 plugs (just so I can work with the fuel issues on cheaper plugs), get someone more experienced to gap them, get those in the car, then go around and test 10-15L of all the decent brands of fuel in town.

Go with HKS plugs.

Back after a couple weeks with new plugs in the car…made no difference in the logs.

Did three map 0 pulls. Still backing timing off. Shell “91” in the tank. No octane boost or anything. This is from a high volume station where plenty of other folks with higher performance cars buy fuel. I didn’t perform an ECU reset after changing plugs, but honestly other than the orange manganese stuff from the Boostane I ran in the car originally, the plugs actually looked fine when I took them out. Electrode tips were clean and nothing looked obviously gummy.

Is this just what I’m stuck with? Or are there other things I can be looking at other than WMI?

I had a similar experience, reset the ECU, give it some time and take logs starting from map0.
