New 2020 GT Stinger with rust under seats and behind dash panels

Quick update - service manager examined the car. Rather than removing the rust, it was agreed that it should not be there at all, especially on the seat frame, so a warranty claim was lodged and subsequently approved by Kia HQ. They are going to ship new seat frames and other structural framing components from under the dash (such as the guard around the brake pedal) and replace completely.

That’s good to hear.

Will the dash need to be removed or can they get to the components while it's in place?

Not 100% sure, visually looks like they will be able to change with the dash in place and removing the plastic panels. Hopefully this is the case.

Checked my car, under the dash and under front driver seat. Some very mild surface corrosion on welds where presumably the zinc has been blown away or stainless (if there is any) sensitized. Other than that nothing like yours.

I would note that my welds also looked neater than yours do on some of your rusted components. I'd be very curious to know what happened on those parts. Looks like a 'pprentice did some work and didn't follow procedure quite right. Or it's rework.

Thanks Nereth, appreciate the update and glad yours is ok. Interesting re the quality of the welds. Hopefully my car isn't unsafe as a result.

Random thought. Have you checked under the spare tire/ battery compartment for any moisture issues

Just had a look, all clean and dry. There is a small amount of rust on the rear seat mounts but minimal compared to the front. Battery all ok.
