I recently installed the Ultimate performance HFC downpipe & mid pipe combo as an addition to my MBRP catback and as soon as I left the shop the car sounded terrible. It was loud as all hell but not in a good way at all. When I go to accelerate and hit 2-3k rpm it makes what could be mistaken as a heat shield rattle. Thing sounds like a POS rice rocket. When down shifting or coming to a stop it sounds great. When I’m in park and I rev it, it also sounds nice. It’s only when I’m driving does it sound like complete garbage and only in that rpm range. I’ve done everything I could to locate the source. I put it on a lift and put exhaust wrap around every spot that I thought could potentially contact anything, i tightened all clamps and bolts. I even went as far as pushing in the catback so the tips of the exhaust don’t hit the metal flange inside the bumper “tips”. There is literally nothing I could visually see that would be causing this. I even had a few ppl take a look and the first thing everyone says is “oh it’s making contact somewhere or it’s the heat shield”.

Has anyone installed this exhaust combo and ran into the same issue?

Any ideas what it could be?

It’s gotten to the point where I’m ready to put my stock pipes back on which I’ve tried avoiding because the entire reason I installed these primary and secondary was because I also installed a Wagner inter cooler w/ charge pipe and JB4.

Here is a link to a YouTube video I made so you can hear the noise. The volume may be a little low but you can definitely hear it.

Let me know what you think.

Sounds like I'm hearing it on this guys video to.

Yeahhhh I heard resonators would fix that buzzing noise. I occasionally get it too with my mbrp and secondary do’s but only when I start to drive the car.

I think you might be in the market for resonated mids.

Yup he definitely is... i watched that right after i posted this. Even in his video it doesn't sound nearly as bad as it does in person.

Yup, I did exactly that. I called Ultimate Performance and they told me that it's a common complaint and their pipes simply do not work well with aftermarket catbacks. So i kept the ultimate performance combo on and got rid of the MBRP catback. Thing sounds perfect now.

I wanna get a different cat back but not sure which one to get. If anyone has any recommendations that are known to work/sound good with these let me know.

Intreseted in selling the catback? Shipping is hard but just curious

Where are you located? I might sell mine since I’m dealing with the same thing lol. Or add resonators haven’t decided yet

So i kept Ultimate Performance HFC combo on but i took off the MBRP catback. Thing sounds perfect now. I actually ended up calling Ultiate Performance and they said they get a lot of compliants about this. I explained what I was hearing and the guy said that's exactly what everyone else says as well. He said their pipes just dont work that well with A/M catbacks.

Yeah definitely. I was planning on taking some pics and tossing it on the classifieds later today

Ill wait for the post but wifey dont like me spending money lol

I have resonated mids and my borla sounds fine. Then again my downpipes are stock so that probably has a bigger impact lol.

Common issue with MBRP and downpipe combo. Made me get rid of my downpipes after a couple of days. Sounded terrible.

I wish I would’ve known this. Apparently resonators would fix sound. Not sure how true that is. I’m not married to the mbrp. Have you heard of another exhaust that matched well with the downpipe combo?

I'm not sure honestly. I'd say give the resonators a shot. Probably the least expensive option.

I tried catless downpipe with MBRP and also gave up on it in few days. I also tried with muffler delete and was no go too.

Hey bro im having the same exact issue. Mine just got installed yesterday and it rattles in the back of my car so bad. Sounds like a honda civic rice rocket. What did you end up doing to fix the problem im thinking about getting a mid OEM resonator
