Need Feedback/Help: Tork vs. JB4

There are no similarly modded piggyback cars in the U.S. (to my knowledge). No one else is running full bolt-ons yet.

Terry's car with just intake and JB4 is trapping in the 118 mph range.

@KLR STINGER has AWD with JB4 and I think his trap speeds are in the 113s.

I think the difference is launching the car. There's something going on with no ECU tuned cars that limit (or reduce) boost off the line.

Tork had full bolt ons and a box and did drop a few tenths moving to the tune.
Agree the ecu tune launches better and probabaly holding better power around shift points. Tork has a shift point update that i dont have yet.
Torks car actually made more peak power with the box but was slower.

Edit:
Jonny Tig did run a 12.25 with full bolt ons except down pipe with a lap3. I would argue the JT intake and JT intercooler are better than the same on Torks car. I'm hoping to hit 12.29 from (12.44) in my AWD after adding JT intakes, FMIC and tune update.

If you to be fast get the ECU tune. If you want flexibility, resale, no trace at the dealer, get a box.
Tork tunes seem to be runnimg .2 to .4 faster in the quarter than a similarly modded box car.
My AWD with just a cat back, stock air box, and tork tune ran 12.44, 1.91 60 foot at 112 mph. I doubt even a box RWD with same mods is that fast in ET. I was running 12.78 at 112 mph with a race chip. Boxes make good peak power but launch like the stock car (like shit) Torks car also dropped .3 or .4 moving to the tune.
In the general sense of chip vs tune I agree. A tuned car with the same bolt-ons will probably be a little quicker, especially vs a RaceChip.

However for our Stingers it’s not necessarily the case. Terry’s STOCK RWD Stinger with only a JB4 ran a 12.4 and dropped to 12.3 with just intakes. If Terry’s Stinger had all the same upgrades as Torks he’d probably be running 11s too.

One other thing to keep in mind, the JB4 is not just another basic piggyback like the RaceChip. It’s a full CANbus OBDII integrated tunable chip. It’s more like a hybrid of both a ECU tune & piggyback. It has all the advantages of the “box” you mentioned, but like a ECU tune it also has fine tuning capabilities for even more performance advantages.

Actually these fine tuning capabilities exceed a tune in a few ways. While the RC had poor launching, the JB4 has “boost by gear” and can limit boost in any or all of gears 1-3. Also having the ability to alter boost levels(per RPM) & AFR ratios to maximize upgrades is unmatched in the industry.

Ultimately(after more tuner updates) people may be able to get a little more power out of ECU tunes, but currently they are very evenly matched with the JB4.

I have the JB4 on my awd GT and love it. Transmission tuning would be beneficial with power gains on both RWD and AWD. My recorded 0-60 shows the car moves but stays around 2-3mph for a .4-.6 seconds and then finally goes. 0-60 Stock with air filters 5.4 seconds. Jb4 with spark plugs and same air filters 4.6 seconds.

I agree with all you said but even with the JB4 the ECU tune still has the edge. Probably since the tune doesnt need to cut power in first and second gears.
Terrys stock JB4 RWD ran 12.4 and my stock AWD with ECU tune ran 12.4. AWDs are typically .2 to .3 slower due to weight and transmission power loss. My AWD does have a quiet custom catback so 10 hp maybe, so closer to .1 to .2 advantage. My 60 foot was 1.91 and most jb4s are around 2.0 so one of the tenths is right there.
There are still some launch nannys that loom as my 60 foots are typically 1.95, hit the 1.91 once. Tork has some tranny and shift fueling updates i dont have yet.

Edit:
I saw a Terry post where he is getting 2.05 and 2.1 60 foot times. So the .2 does appear to all be in the launch.
KLR Stinger's AWD with JB4 map3 and fuel control, exhaust, intakes and down pipe is running exact same ET as me but he has 2.1 60 foot.

Haven’t taken mine to the track since moving from Lap3 to JB4, but my 60’ with Lap3 was 2.0 in my AWD with Borla cat-back and k&n intakes.

Have only run map2 with fuel wires and it doesn’t feel as though it pulls as hard as the Lap3 at lower rpm and lower speeds, but does feel ever so slightly faster at top end. My guess is the map2 is equivalent to the Lap3, so I’m hoping to see what map3 and 5 do at the track with 100octane.

That being said, JB4 seems like it has room to grow and something I can adjust on the fly. Eventually I’ll move to an ECU tune, but want to wait to see if the Stinger has quality issues waiting for me in the 30-50k mile range.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Tonka said it right here....yes if you need or want that .2 /.4 edge.....Im prolly one of the older FFERs here...and ive done all this stuff to many cars and drag boats over many years.... My plan is to have a nice riding quiet sleeper of a car and thats where the JB4 comes in...ask yourself some questions as to what you want out of your car? If you are newish to hot rodding and you wanna go all out ,then be my guest and more power to you.Is this car your daily driver that you will be driving all the time? That's the first question to ask yourself. Is a .2 or .4 that important to you? Are you gonna end up with a dependable ride after all your mods?....these are just a few questions to consider...im sure theres more.....Wash
