• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Rockingham Reminder!!
Test and tune tonight! I'm tired of being the only bully Singer there, LOL. $25 gets you in for all the test runs you want. Gate open at 4 and runs go from 6pm to 11pm.
I hope to see another Stinger there!!

Anyone in the Triangle area get PPF installed on their Stinger or previous car? Looking for a recommendation for a good shop.

I'm still trying to figure out how so many people around RDU have dark tint when they do inspections and check for under 35%. lol

I used Distinctive Detailing for my paint correction and ceramic coat and am super happy with the results. They are not cheap but Sean is fastidious. He also does wraps and PPF (you can take a look at his site). I should tell you he did not recommend PPF to me due to the thinness of paint Kia uses. That said, he'll do what the customer asks.

I don't have a Stinger anymore. This is for a different vehicle. Curious, it seems the thinner the paint the more you'd want PPF, no? I don't understand that logic.

I'll check him out, thanks for the recommendation.

*edit* Distinctive Detailing quoted me $800 for bumper and $850 for hood. He said no partial hoods because it permanently damages the paint.

$1650 is a bit much for me. That's 2.5 hood/bumper paint jobs.

I used Tint World in Cary for mine. I got paint correction, re-badging, legal ceramic tint, ceramic coating on paint, wheels, brakes, and glass, and full PPF on the front up to the mirrors. My impressions...love the window tint, paint correction was good, and ppf covered well. Honestly disappointed in the ceramic coating. I don't know what my expectations were, but it's nice when clean, but the dirt still sticks to it like it wasn't coated and requires the normal amount of effort to keep the car clean. All in, I think I was around $2,500. I think just the PPF was around $1400 and has a 10 year warranty. For all I had done at the total price, I think it was a decent value. Given the quality of the factory paint, I wasn't willing to go high end on the PPF or coating. I was quoted anywhere from $5-8k from three other shops I checked with for the same work.

I got a quote from Tint World to vinyl wrap my Evora and the shop owner was offended when I told him that he was the most expensive of the quotes I had gotten so far. Really wasn't a fan of that interaction at all.

I went to Tint World for a quote for roof wrap a couple of years ago. The old man in charge came out and loudly conversed with me using profanity every few words. At the same time I had a 4 year old and 9 year old in the back seat of my car. I'm not particularly sensitive to people using profanity but I appreciate people refraining from such language when kids are around. That especially goes for the owner/operator of a business speaking (loudly) in a parking lot to a potential customer.

He also quoted me an outrageous price that I almost laughed at. To top things off he kept trying to pressure me to buy services I had no interest in.

When I left his shop I left a negative Google review. Not long after he lied and said he'd never met me and went on a conspiracy theory rant about how I'm just a liar trying to ruin his business.

Suffice to say he will never see a dime from me.

I got a quote from place down in Garner called ATD Detailing. They have all 5 star reviews on Google and look to do professional work. I was quoted $850 for bumper + half hood with X-PEL Ultimate Plus with a 10yr warranty. They also offer military discount so hopefully I can get it done for right at $800 with tax.

I tool a leap of faith and elected to wrap the roof myself. Difficult but not impossible. I figured, spend 50 and if it fails, I remove and reconsider the 400-500 quote received. I purposely left out A frames and shark fin. The drip rails were very easy to remove and did multiple coats of plasti dip and glossifier. I did not remove the headliner nor would I want someone else doing it to wrap the fin. There are enough reports of strange rattling and creaks in the stinger sunroof and headliner that I did not want to add to given things have been good so far. I may do the plasti dip on the fin as well. I measured the fin and created a template that I transferred onto the vinyl. On a scale of 1-10 in terms of satisfaction, I'm at 9.5.
Areas to look out for and pay special attention:
Tucking and heating ends is not difficult but ensure you do not cut too short. Hopefully my mistake will help. Be mindful of it. Otherwise, you may have to splice a piece. It wont be seen but You need to ensure its sealed. Bear in mind it needs to be near perfect near the fin. I lost a few points on this but you have to look real close to pick out and IMO looks fine.
The other area is the strip between the hatch and roof. It was a bear heat and secure the ends with perfect straight cut lines. Again the lines wont be seen but wanted to aim for perfection so if I fell short, it had a shot of staying on the car. A little bit of a let down but not a deal breaker on the job. I'll let you all decide for yourself. My feelings wont be hurt if you disagree with my opinion. My goal was to share with the forum that it may be worth a DIY shot before laying that cash out for a piece of vinyl.20201211_111348~3.webp20201211_111422_HDR~3.webp

I say that your time and 50 bucks were well spent. I've been contemplating this as well. Nice to hear it from someone local that has made the effort. I did see recently there was a guy that had a video about how to get the fin off with out removing the headliner. maybe this would help get the fin completed?
