Just to let everyone know I called Kia corporate and asked about the Nav update and long story short, they are sending me the latest update for free because I have owned more than one Kia. My first was a 2011 Optima SX. Throwing it out there..

Just throwing it out there... they give anyone in the US 1 free upgrade if you ask.

What is this update do/for?
Do we not get free updates from time to time or is it something we have to pay for or it's not usually offered at all?

Virtually all manufacturers, KIA included, charge a ridiculous amount to get map and infotainment system updates. It appears in the US at least, they permit one free map update, possibly because the Stinger is meant to be a "premium" vehicle.

Doesn't mean much to me, I never use built-in nav.

Ah good to know, thank you! I haven't used the navigation yet but I like the animation on Home menu.

I can only hope that Kia decides to update their sound system (an EQ upgrade ) and allow for additional audio formats.

I think you mean us Aussies. We get 10 years free Nav updates. Why would they do something different for your Northerners?

Called today and was informed that KIA hasn't given free updates out for the last two years.

They will give one free update since virtually all new cars are sold with outdated software. It's a joke that they give it out for x amount of years in other countries but US owners get screwed.

United States of America gets the 1 freebie. Maybe it was Canada who gets lifetime. 10 years would make everyone happy. I can’t say why they f over different markets. Just like the remote start.

interesting.. i think i will hold out and wait until there are "major" updates .. i never use the factory nav, the google maps / car play is just superior
