• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

MY2019 Build 2019....Supposedly

Just want some thoughts on this one.

When I ordered the car last month I insisted that it was to be a MY2019 build 2019 and was assured that it would be.

I picked up my Stinger GT a week ago and only popped the bonnet today looking at how I can remove the KIA badge easily so it can be replaced with the "E" badge that I have. Under the bonnet there is a sticker saying "Built Oct 2018". It seems to me that the car isn't a 2019 build. Or is it just a sticker for the bonnet itself.

Any thoughts?
I demanded the same thing from my dealer and mine was built on January 18 (shows that sticker under the bonnet) and the all important compliance plate reads 02/19.

Check yours to see what it says.

People, buy the car, get in and enjoy driving it, being a 2018 or a 2019. This to me is petty in the extreme

I signed my contract on the 02-NOV-2017 , for a MY18 StingerGT in DeepChromaBlue , but I insisted I would wait for a January 2018 built Stinger, and that is exactly what I picked up 4 months later, I know for a fact my StingerGT was built on the 15-JAN-2018, and I have the paperwork to prove it, the car arrived at the dealership on 23-FEB-2018, the build date is of course JAN 2018, and exactly my personal preference, and YES , build date matters.

Build date matters , and I know first hand and have experienced it in my previous car purchase, I still own my VZ Commodore, I bought this car in April 2005, it was sitting on the showroom floor of the Holden dealership, the car was registered as a 2004 model, because it was built in DEC 2004, I knew this before I bought it, i could of waited for exactly the same car, same features, same colour, it's exact twin brother, except it would be a 2015 build and cost a little more, so I just took the one off the showroom floor.

Point is it's all down to personal preference, there is no right or wrong, you just do what's right for you, and for your peace of mind, and maybe future value, my dealership said to me, if we find a MY18 in Deep Chroma Blue with a build date of NOV 2017 or DEC 2017, would you accept it, I said a big fat " NO THANKYOU " , and I am happy with my decision, I'm happy and at peace with waiting for my JAN 2018 build Stinger.

The build date is not irrelevant when it comes to resale because regardless of the MY when you try to trade a dealer will only look at when it was built. It also has an impact on insurance

Too true. The longer you have the car the less it matters due to the depreciation but it still matters

So if a guy asks for a certain car and gets shafted by the dealer then according to you he is petty? I think that says more about you than the entirely reasonable OP question.

And you do realise that as he effectively bought last years build date he should have been able to negotiate a better deal. Maybe he did and if that is the case then he has been compensated. Unfortunately this is the reason why the customer has to be so diligent when dealing with a dealer and fact check all these types of things as some dealers will act unethically

you think he is petty?

Getting a bum steer by a dealer, not being petty, and that’s not what I commented on, being petty over the year of build for a My19 is being petty.
Just buy a car and drive.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I've seen a handful of January 2019 built cars come up on carsales; even one February built vehicle!

As PxbVic said, Carsales can show total BS. But sign up for the Kia Hotline service manual website & you can check any VIN for free. It shows exact build & warranty start dates; along with all the production option codes.

I think hers was built June and still had the continental tyres. Pilots were fitted to vehicles from July onwards.
Correct MY19 started being built in June 2018; but with continentals. July onward builds had the Michelin

My Jan 19 built, Mar 19 compliance was delivered to me today - no BS!
Well done nothing matches that excitement! What spec, trim, colour did you get?
Did you want to put your location in with your avatar. It helps with regional meets etc.

@nerdfrenzy Your car is MY2019. The date it was built is irrelevant, but I would not expect to see a built 2019 car for a month or 2 yet it's just too early in the year.

The build date is relevant if the next buyer thinks it's relevant - and they often do. Whether it's correct or not, a 2018-built MY19 may well be worth less in the eyes of some buyers than a 2019 built MY19.

When I was looking for an SSV Redline, I was specifically looking for 2017 built vehicles. I know with Subarus (I've owned several), MYxx model year cars start to arrive from anything from July to September in CY(xx-1) - how soon depends on stock of MY(xx-1) cars still in country and how much buffer capacity the importer is holding.

Back when the Stinger was new to the market, they were selling them quicker than they could get them off the boats - the hype has died down now, and between better supply and slightly lower interest in the market, it's entirely possible that there are fewer (but larger) shipments coming in - meaning that the chance of a slightly older model is still there.

Want to be sure you're getting the latest car? Order an unusual combo of features (red interior with certain exterior colours), or the most common one (that sells out quickest) - you may have to wait for one to roll off the factory floor and be put onto a ship to get here. But you'll know when it's been produced. :)
