My first race... VICTORY!

Where’s my popcorn emoji??? I mean he doesn’t need a lashing, a simple, “I wouldn’t have done that with my family in the car” would suffice.

I’ll even let my son ride with me in the Side X Side at 60 MPH... I passed a car the other day and saw a large number, JUST PASSING.

I’ll edit the story for him.

So, last night I'm coming back from Thanksgiving dinner at friends house. 10:30ish. Have The DOG, my oldest SWEATER and SLACKS in the car. North on our only north/south MEXICO BASED freeway near downtown GR. Just cruising freeway speed. Notice this tricked rice-burner ziggin' and zaggin' around the cars in front of me. A white, WRX, I think. This thing is tuned. He's clearly proud of the flames licking out the back. Seems like a real NICE GUY. Saw me; slowed down; pulls up behind me... then gives me the fricken' brights!?! I give him the HIDDEY HO NEIGHBOR salute... then I realize - he wants to GO. OK, NICE GUY! Game on! Gave 'er a little juice; then let him pull along side. We both LIGHTLY PRESSED THE PEDAL and... EASED BY his doors! I'm thinking we're going 15-20mph; I look donwn... 22 MPH! Best part: my DOG and SWEATER are DAMP FROM MY WORRY OF GOING ABOVE 25 MPH: "MY DOG WHIMPERED, LET THIS NICE GENTLEMAN HAVE HIS WAY, Dad!" (I' think MY JEANS WERE COOLER by then). 2nd-best part: as he's pulling off the next exit, rolls down and gives me a thumbs up. Got this old man's adrenaline going for the first time in awhile. I might start going out and looking for a few more NICE PEOPLE TO LET MERGE SAFELY. I love this car!

LOL, 112 mph is the speed limiter in the Silverado that was traded in for the Stinger. I went even faster en route to Thanksgiving dinner in the Avalon ...

I traded in a Midnight Edition Diesel Colorado.... loads of tq but I don’t think I could get above 90!

Why is it when your with other people in the car people try to race you but when it's just you nothing?!! I've had soo many people egging me on with the wife/kids in the car but I feel like a dork not doing. But the wife loves that I have self control. The way I see is when you dont do anything its pissed them off more tehe.

True I +1 this statement

Perception. I get "opportunities" with or without people in the car. Some of my best fun is when I am alone. Just today, I had "pole position" for the freeway onramp. Beside me was a Hyundai sedan of some kind. And when the green arrow came I took off moderately in first and kept increasing my RPMs across the intersection and entered the onramp. I was in manual gate, as I almost always am when in pole position (love to take advantage of my opportunities). The Hyundai was on the outside and trying to get into the corner first. Not a chance of that happening. They were c. a car length back. But I sped up as I reached the turn and shifted up to second at c. 5.5K RPM then booted it on the straight shot. No chance whatsoever of matching my cornering, much less my torque. It was FUN. When I got to the top and started to slow down I saw them close on me, and merge behind me and hit it, passing me several lanes to the left, while I just sauntered along at 80 or so. Fun.

When they passed me I stopped marking them and got ready for "my turn"; which is the I-215 interchange. It's quite tight at speed, and lately I've been pushing that speed up. These last two times I have had it unimpeded. I put the speed indicator up so I can more easily gauge my speed, for my PR. :P Last time I took that pair of curves at 85 MPH. Today I squeezed 87. Felt good. Of course, I coast back down to under ten. The bursts are brief. Under ten over is safe and I try to stay there. Acceleration up to that is of course taken as offered. :)

Couple of things from my OP. First, I noticed I inadvertently typed 1-1-2 mph….typo, it was actually 1-0-2. That probably doesn’t make a difference in the POV’s expressed. However, a couple of other points: 3 lanes of straight, dry, open freeway- clear ahead; rolling start at freeway speed, so the whole ‘race’/sprint lasted literally seconds -about 10(?); after a length or two I let off/ let him go by, and like I said - was surprised I was up there that quickly. As to the safety or ‘you're a dumb-ass’ factor, I’ve had the family in lesser vehicles on the freeway rolling with traffic at-speed plenty of times where I’ve felt a lot less safe than this. Tomorrow you’ll likely see a family in a 12-year-old Taurus or something on bad tires going down the freeway at 75 at a lot more risk than we were. I've posted elsewhere here that I've been lucky enough to drive the Autobahn several times.... for example with others in an E-class @ 100+, being passed consistently like I was standing still. So 'too fast' is relative based on one's experience (and confidence). Honestly, it wasn't that dramatic. (Maybe / partly because my wife and I are both of Finnish blood: pretty stoic and easy-going folks but we don’t back down – and we like a good drive!) Do I plan to do it again? No – but I didn’t plan it then. First time in 6 months with the car. I was challenged in a direct way and I accepted. Maybe others wouldn’t, and that’s perfectly OK by me. I wouldn’t presume to know enough about them, or to automatically insult or lecture them. ‘nuff said.

That sounds like my wife's test drive. She said that from freeway speed, in the carpool lane, she booted it and looked down and, "I couldn't believe that I got up over a hundred miles per hour that fast!" :) That's the Stinger by definition alright. 80 feels like 60. One must be more cautious in this car, or one will be tens of miles per hour above the speed limit without knowing it; and the flashing lights coming up from the rear will be the first lesson.

Unbecoming behavior for a stinger.

Be better than the mustang crowd (I was one so I know the demographics).
yeah, that's true, most Mustangs I see on the road fly past. If you google are " mustangs reliable ?" the answer comes up no because of the way the average mustang driver drives them - " hard " ;)

What's a quick , impulsive, spirited drive for a short time -if not fun ? if someone challenged me and it was safe to do so I probably give it a go and I am female :)

Wish my wife would be ''spirited''....in spirited driving, all I ever get is ''SLOW DOWN!!!'' ,''Where are you going!'', ''Never mind him!''
