Just purchased 2020 kia stinger gt, 6 cylinder from Texas dealership. Discovered this evening that the exhaust has been modified. There are no mufflers on the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem and what were you able to do about it ad far as legalities and replacement?

A lot of guys on here run muffler deletes for a cheaper alternative to add sound. I have no idea where you live but laws vary by state/province. First thing Id check is if it was a muffler shop hack job (cut the mufflers off and welded a straight pipe on) or if they used a bolt on kit with flanges that can be easily reversed. Once we know that we can provide options.

And if you need some OE ones, I have a brand new set, just pay shipping?

Thank you for the helpful info. I'm in Texas. At this point, I now have an appointment with dealership for next Tuesday. They said they will
" take care of it " and provide a rental.

Dealer sales manager admitted knowing it was a straight pipe. This is my first vehicle of this caliber. I though it was the active exhaust volume adjustment until I found it did nothing. Then I checked under car and no mufflers.
My research indicates that it is absolutely illegal in Texas to sell, finance or insure a vehicle without a muffler.
Also, parts of warranty could be voided.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
mufflers do not count as emissions controls. just the cats, which are on the headers and secondaries on the downpipes. technically they didn't violate that part of the law.

didn't you hear them when you test drove the car?

Makes you wonder what kind of inspection they do on used vehicles before they're sold

Yeah, he said he didn't know how they could have missed that

What else did they miss?

No telling. I had to order a missing wheel lock key. Thankfully, the ID card was in glove box

Whether or not they count as emission controls is irrelevant.
It is illegal to operate a vehicle in any state without a muffler.
It is illegal to sell a vehicle with illegal modifications, disclosed or not.

I would be concerned about the condition of the car. The previous owner deleted the mufflers probably had a jb4 on it too and drove it hard

My thoughts exactly. I am returning it.

fair enough. did you drive the car before you bought it? i'm just wondering how this got past you before the ink was signed.
