Motor Trend Ignition Ep. 181 -Kia Stinger - Full Episode

I've yet to see any English speaking reviews that discuss things beyond driving dynamics that I care about, e.g.
  • Stereo System - how does it sound?
  • Infotainment System - easy to use, graphic interface, is it buggy?
  • Remote Start - is it standard, embedded with the key fob, or only through a phone app?
  • Regular or Premium gas?
  • Quality of active safety features (blind spot monitoring, active lane keep assist)
I get that some of these may change in the final US production spec, but even the recent Australian reviews make no mention of these things.

I don't believe there is any remote start at all. I know every other Kia on the market does not have remote start built in. You can purchase an aftermarket remote start from Kia that has been rebranded as their own, but nothing by default.

That would be disappointing. Remote start is an option in their UVO suite, but it's via the phone. I'd prefer the option on the key and avoid the whole wireless phone headaches, but I'll take what I can get.

The key fob doesn't appear to have a start button on it but something's better than nothing. (I live in MN and it is cold here in the winter)

Let's hope that a long press will do the trick. That's a really cool design by the way.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

More than likely it will be a feature in the Infotainment unit and you will use an APP on your phone to remote start. Let's just hope there is no yearly subscription fee. Whereas it won't be a deal breaker alone, for me, there are just somethings that should be included in a car that is 30K+ in my opinion.

I'm not at all disappointed by that performance (that may change based on final MSRP of Stinger GT) since Motor Trend went as far as to name the Chevrolet SS sedan "The new Benchmark Sport Sedan" and compare it favorably to the E39 BMW M5. Other than a couple short instances of outrageous discounts the SS Sedan is $47K or higher and all indications are that it is dead and gone. Also, just offering Nappa leather means the interior should be much nicer than that SS.
Yes, the Chevy SS is gone. Finished. A shame because it was a really nice sedan. Especially after the minor updates it received mid-cycle. I really liked it. I'm not disappointed by the Stinger's numbers either. I think it's going to sell really well and I feel it's very competitive with what the competition has to offer...

So...it's 1.66 seconds slower around the streets of Willow than the V8 Chevrolet SS sedan. I can't wait to see them test the 2018 Regal GS to see if it's weight savings makes up for the naturally aspirated v6....though the Stinger looks better than either of those two.
I just got my copy of Motor Trend in the mail and it has a written review of the Stinger GT that references this Ignition Episode. In one section it clarifies Randy Pobst's feelings regarding the laptime stating ..."he felt wasn't representative of what the car could do. With a properly equipped car, he believes he could subtract a full second." I'm not yet able to find this online at Motor Trend's website...but it should be there before a month or so.
