I was finally able to bring my 2020 Kia Stinger GT (8k miles) to the dealership this past Monday (I live 3 hours away one way). There is a loud whining noise coming from the driver side turbo, engine misfires at cold start and solid substances in the coolant. The service advisor told me the car was dangerous to drive and that the turbo failure can cause a blown engine. They got me in a rental and sent me home. I call them today to follow up and they tell me that "everything is normal." What the heck? I'm dealing with Medved Kia in Denver. Anyone have any other shops in the Denver Metro area they recommend? I am furious, the car is clearly making a loud whining noise at around 2-4K.

I saw, "Medieval Kia" for a second. Hah. I would be upset too; mainly because of the distance between. Was the noise constant for you? If not, then you're afflicted with the too-often "cannot replicate" scenario/excuse. So, you drove the car three hours and it made the failing turbo sound all the way to Denver? And now "they" can't create the problem? "Everything is normal" includes the "solid substances in the coolant"?? If crap is in your coolant they should be able to see it.

Yes, I am heated. They will be giving me a call back soon. I am trying to get the car to another dealership ASAP but we are in the middle of a major winter storm 3 hours west of Denver... It's not that they cant replicate the sound. They are telling me the best tech who was there for 15 years thinks the sound is normal... When you roll down the window it sounds like a loud drill. My turbo was never this loud and it is progressively getting louder and louder. To the point where the initial service tech said a "turbo should not sound like a supercharger"

If your car is still under warranty and the engine blows, they will replace your whole engine. There will be a record that you took your car in and they found nothing. Also, when turbos blow they also replace the whole engine anyway. I would not worry about the unknown.

What they tell you on the phone without an inspection is just guess work. What they tell you after an actual inspection is what is important.

Hi Merlin, just wanted to follow up. After a few trips to the dealership I decided to go for a second opinion. The second dealership, Peak Kia, ended up being much better than the one mentioned above. They worked with me, actually spent time checking and diagnosed it as a transfer case issue that may be related to my winter tire sizing.

That sounds dire and needs further explanation. How could squaring up for winter tires affect a transfer case??

It won't. My 2019 GT2 AWD came with a square 18" setup from the factory. This dealership is making excuses.

Blaming a square tire setup for a transfer case issue reminds me of a time I brought my car back to the dealer to get it re-aligned and they told me the car was fine it was the roads that were the problem.

He didn't say square , he said size......................

you're right, most people (like me ) probably assumed a square set since most people do that for winter tires... but doesn't look like he said what the size('s) were on the tires he got.. maybe they were a different staggered combination which could potentially be the cause..

Actually he did, because this thread:

Is a continuation of this one.

Ah didn't put two and two together .

Ok guys! After a ton of back and forth with the dealer and Tire Rack, the dealership had no idea what they are doing. It is not the transfer case and the tires are the correct size. Endless calls and arguments have lead nowhere and my frustration has lead to selling my car. I will never buy Kia again. The used car market is so good, I made a nice profit :)

Incompetent folks at that dealer. The problem wasn’t KIA or the car, it was the folks at the dealers. Sorry you had a bad experience, hopefully whatever else you go with, you won’t end up dealing with similar issues.
