Louder Noise from Stock BOV

Hello,

So I made some DIY intakes and love the new sound from both the turbos and BOVs. However, I want louder BOV noise. I have read that you can unhook the hose from the stock BOV and cap the intake port. I guess it won't cause any issue and people say you can hear it more.... but those people saying that don't have intakes... So my question is, who has some intakes and has done this? Is it louder than how they sound with intakes? Thanks in advance!

I've driven with:
-stock intakes and plugged intake ports
-DIY intakes and plugged ports
-AEM intakes and hooked up intake ports (current)
-AEM intakes and plugged intake ports

My current setup by far has the loudest blowoff sound. When I removed the hoses and plugged the holes, the blowoff was probably 25% of the volume it was with them hooked up. You're probably not going to be able to get it louder unless you replace the BOVs

Thanks for the reply. Is there a reason you switch to the AEM intakes versus keeping the DIY

I just liked the more professional look of an actual intake kit. And the heat shields. It’s super solid and looks great because it was made for the car. The DIY intakes did the job, but they moved around too much and didn’t fit great. And they just didn’t look that good to me. But for sound, alone, they do just fine.

I agree that an actual intake kit does look more professional. I put a picture of my DIYs and I don't think they look too bad. Since they are really only for noise and a little performance, I would rather put my money elsewhere, like exhaust or JB4.

So, I actually decided to try unhooking the hoses to see if there was a difference and I definitely think there is a difference in noise. Definitely more PSHH after throttle let off and I can hear them spool more but idk if that is because all the spool noise is coming through the intake now or if its because I just put synthetic oil in it. Either way, I think there is enough of a difference to get me by until i get a Tial wastegate.

My girlfriend agreed that it was much quieter when I took the hoses off. I put them back on without telling her and the first time I let off the throttle, she said “you put your hoses back on”.

anyway, it’s always good to save some money and still get the result you want. I just decided to spend it because I plan to keep the Stinger for a long time. So it was worth the investment.

Yeah, definitely weird that we got different results but probably because of them being different intakes. Ill do actual intakes and BOV later down the road for sure

When you plugged the intake ports what did you use? I was looking at using the chair leg tips but not sure what size to get. I cannot for the life of me find my calipers to measure the OD of the port on the intake pipe. I think I'm supposed to 1 inch tips but not sure.

I currently have plugged BOV hoses. I used oil galley expansion plugs from autozone. They plug the OEM rubbing tubing and work great, and are pretty cheap

So I want to plug the nipple on the intake tube not the hose and I guess I'm worried about expanding it enough to stay put that it will crack the tube. Also what size did you get? There are MANY different sizes.

I used expansion plugs. I believe it’s 3/4” for the stock intakes. They look like this.

another option is to go to a hardware store (Home Depot for me) and get some of these. They’re called nylon locking hole plugs. You can also get metal ones.

I thought about doing those nylon plugs, but questioned if it would seal well enough or even stay in, and still not sure what size

I used those when I took the hoses off of my AEM intakes. They were smaller than the stock holes. You’re plugging the stock intake’s holes right? I measured 15/16” inner diameter on those. Those plastic plugs are something like 50 cents. So buy a few different sized and use what fits

yeah I'm talking the stock holes. I went with the BMS intake so it keeps that part stock.
